Date(s) Skied: March 5th, 2011

Resort or Ski Area: Wildcat

Conditions: PP to "Springish"

Trip Report: Funny day weather and condition wise at Wildcat. Pretty stiff southwest wind, but basically blew down the chair line so wind holds were not an issue. Had the funny sensation of being in a hot-air balloon going down... as in there was no wind in your face while ripping a groomer.

We saw Snow, Rain, Freezing Rain, Sleet and the Sun during our day. Overall conditions held up. Got a little manky at the bottom towards the end of the day, but excellent cover everywhere.

Tomcat-Schuss was probably the bump run of the day. Feline under the triple had pretty good cover too. Top-Cat up top under the Quad was very good... although the middle sections we avoided due to too many obstacles.

Seemed to be doing some type of reforestation of the Mountain Jag area so access to that glade was limited. They forced skiers down this skinny woods run out that had no room to turn.... at least for me. The glade looked like a lot of fun so hopefully they get it open in the future.

All the groomers skied well. Catanary and Cougar probably were the most fun.

This is discussed in another recent thread... but one interesting thing we discovered is that Wildcat seemed a lot "flatter" to us today. We have not been back for a couple of years, and I think this is a result of us improving our skiing. Lots of Saddleback and Sugarloaf steeps have made Wildcat a bit tamer in our opinion. Still love this mountain but it has lost a bit on the challenge side for us.

No Pics. Light was crappy and too much unfrozen liquid flying around. Lets hope for less rain and more snow this weekend!!!

Did you guys hit Starr Line, Al's folly, or Hairball?

If so, how were those skiing?

What was the surface conditions when you left?

Al's folly was good. Starr Line and Hairball were open, but had quite a few rocks etc sticking out so we avoided them.

Snow was getting pretty wet lower 2/3rds. Still below freezing top 1/3 so that was more on the FG side when we left around 2pm.

I'm going on Tuesday. Do you anticipate that they will have to close alot of the bottom of the mountain?

And also did they get any rain there today?

It was raining pretty good on the bottom part of the mountain. Still lots of snow everywhere. Might have to shut off a couple of the natural trials if they get a lot of rain tomorrow... keep an eye on the weather. The backside of this system could be major snow Sunday night. If that happens you will be all set.

Hahaha.

Thanks for everything. The closer it is, the better it's looking!

Yep, that's why regular priced Wildcat tix can also be used at Attitash and $25 Sunday afternoons are now $40. Also, there's no more 2 for 1 Wednesdays. There still was that Simon mall deal if you acted back in Thanksgiving this year (free ticket for every $250 in Amex giftcards purchased), but I'm scratching my head if that would continue.

Outside of some signage regarding attatash... I didn't see a whole lot of changes. Free bag check was nice to have but I think they have had this in years past too...
