Some friends of our's are debating where to ski for Christmas break. They have season passes to Butternut, but are concerned that only half the mountain with marginal conditions will be opened for Christmas. The Farmer's Almanac is calling for "persistently cold temp's throughout Dec." Does anyone know the Northeast's long range winter forecast?

On average, about average.

Which happens to be persistently cold temps throughout Dec.

There are simply too many variables to actually predict a month and a half into the future. I mean, the 10 day forecast is hardly worth a crap, how can you expect a 45 day forecast to be worth anything? Only significant changes in large scale impacts can be considered, such as el ninos and la ninas. Which I don't think there are any this year.
