Mavic Aksion TIre - Clincher

RED.jpg

Ever wondered about whether you're undermining performance when mounting one manufacturer's tire with another manufacturer's wheelset? After all, just because a wheel (or tire) performs a particular way in product testing doesn't mean it will perform the same way when tested with a different tire (or wheel). Mavic thought long and hard about this idea and decided to put all variables solely in their control. They contacted the folks at Vittoria and had a tire built specifically to their specifications, and, after years of R&D, Mavic created the first wheel/ tire system. The technology worked so well, it trickled down all the way to an entry level system, introducing the Mavic Aksion Tire.
The Aksion is built using a single-compound, lightweight, 66TPI casing to provide a supple and responsive ride. The bead is composed of foldable aramid fibers that shed weight and facilitate a seamless rim/tire interface. The Aksion is also equipped with a nylon breaker to protect from punctures. It's not quite commuter tire worthy, but definitely worthy of wrapping a nice set of training hoops. The 65a single durometer rubber reduces rolling resistance without requiring a ridiculously high pressure-Mavic recommends inflation anywhere between 100-145 psi, satisfying nearly any preference.
At 250 grams, the Mavic Aksion tire is slightly weightier than the PowerLink (215g) and GripLink (215g) tires. However, the Aksion is a bit more affordable, making it less painful when it comes time to replace a set. The Aksion is available in both a 25mm and 23mm width that are not front or rear specific, so no matter which size you choose, the tire can be run on either wheel.
