Marc Guido from First Tracks tracked down some info from the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce, confirming that Wildcat is _attempting_ to open for the weekend.

Also received this today from Irene up at the 'Cat.

Holy Cow! 16-36" of new snow in the past 24 hours at the Cat! You've gotta ski it to believe it --- and that is on top of the previous foot plus from the weekend! EPIC! Simply EPIC! Stay tuned & get ready for a possible road-trip this weekend (or earlier!)! We'll keep you up to date on the Snow Report page at www.skiwildcat.com!
We expect phone service to be restored to the Mountain tomorrow, on Thursday --- see you soon!

Already called my dad up in Bartlett, told him to expect to be invaded by some starry eyed flatlanders if all goes well.

I am having an extremely difficult time focusing on work right now, and it isn't getting any better..

hey, molecan, did your Dad mention how much was on the ground in Bartlett? My fantabulous job has me stuck here this weekend. I may have to watch gratuitous ski porn this weekend.

Yeah, nothing on the ground at (estimated) 1200'.
Some snow a few days ago, but that melted, the meat is up in pinkham notch.

I found this weathercam in Bartlett at 1,100 feet on Iron Mountain facing the 302 side.
It tells the low altitude story,(unbiased)and has local weather info collected onsite daily.

Apparently, the word from the old timer locals at the Shannon Door in Jackson(used to be the Oak Lee) is that October storms like we've been receiving is how the Epic '69 season started.
From what my dad remembers, that was the year a lot of mountains had constant closings, as there was too much snow to run the lifts.

Good thing I have AT gear...what a horrible nightmare it would be if there was epic snow this winter and no way to access it!

16-36" of new snow, on top of the weekend's dumping, makes a good 4 feet of snow cover on the Cat! Skiers are skinning the Cat to ski & that will help pack it down! Stay tuned to the Snow Report page for what could be your first ski weekend of the season

No new definitive info, but it's still looking good for the weekend:

The article includes some comments about the challenges of opening this early. Looks like they're going to try to give it a go though...
