“Our forecaster is calling for a couple of feet of snow at this elevation during the course of the weekend, into next week,” Stenger said.

Stenger said he expects to begin making snow this weekend, and open Jay Peak to skiing as early as Dec. 3.

The 20 alpine and 29 Nordic ski resorts that make up the Vermont Ski Areas Association are ever hopeful of early openings, but Thanksgiving ranks low among the holidays ski resorts look forward to

The big money-making holiday weekends for the ski industry are Christmas, Presidents Day and Martin Luther King, Jr.

To make snow, Sugarbush needs consistent temperatures at or below 25 degrees, President Win Smith said.

Sugarbush usually gets skiers and riders with season passes on Thanksgiving, Smith said.

Step in the right direction:

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO
11 AM EST SATURDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW ACROSS THE ADIRONDACKS OF NEW YORK...WHICH
IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 11 AM EST SATURDAY.

TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 7 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE
HIGHER TERRAIN...GENERALLY ABOVE 1000 FEET. THE MOUNTAIN SUMMITS
COULD RECEIVE HIGHER AMOUNTS.

THIS IS EXPECTED TO BE A VERY WET SNOW FALL IN THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS WITH LITTLE ACCUMULATIONS IN THE VALLEYS.

Are you using some new Obama math? Adding it up I seem to get 6-11

Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Scott Braaten is saying ....

Scott Braaten on Famous Internet Skiers said:
Northern Adirondacks including Whiteface… 6-12”

Northern Greens including Jay Peak, Smuggs, Stowe, Bolton… 12-24” above 2,000ft…4-12” from 1,000ft-2,000ft.

North-Central Greens including Mad River Glen and Sugarbush… 10-18” above 2,000ft… 4-10” from 1,000ft-2,000ft.

Central Greens including Killington…6-12” above 2,000ft, 2-6” from 1,000-2,000ft.

Southern Green Mountains including everyone between Okemo and Mt Snow…2-5” above 2,000ft, trace-2” below that.

Northern Whites including Cannon, Bretton Woods, and Wildcat…8-16” above 2,000ft and 4-8” from 1,000-2,000ft.

Central and southern Whites including Attitash, Waterville Valley, and Loon…4-8” above 2,000ft, 1-4” between 1,000-2,000ft.

Scott usually gets the orographic lift in the northern Greens better than the NWS guys at the airport in Burlington. This one is all about how fast the temperature drops. A foot of wet slop that freezes would make for a nice base.
