Pivot Mach 6 Carbon XT/FOX 36 Complete Mountain Bike - 2015

It's only appropriate that, while designing the revolutionary Mach 6 Carbon XT/FOX 36 Complete Mountain Bike, Pivot Cycles took its sweet time and then stuck with the result. This is, after all, a manufacturer who is well-known for locating the current consensus of technology and then finding an innovative exit into the untested grounds of the future. With the Mach 6, Pivot started with the venerable Mach 5.7 and then promptly abandoned it in favor of the clean slate method of engineering. The result is that the Mach 6 is the standard that enduro bikes have to meet going forward, so it'll help you find your own exit up, over, and beyond the previous limits of all-mountain sleds.
While the Mach 6 has myriad benefits over other manufacturers' rush-to-production 27.5-inch all mountain bikes, we'll only take the time to focus on a few defining elements of its geometry. First, its bottom bracket height is low, settling the center of gravity within the rolling stock (like 29ers) and not on top (like 26ers and rush-job 27.5s). Second, the top tube is around an inch longer and the chainstays are around a half-inch shorter than comparable machines, so you'll enjoy all the benefits in stability and handling of the larger frame/short stem/wide bar trend in enduro bikes without the usual penalty of a longer wheelbase.
The key to this win/win/win situation is Pivot's use of a new clevis to connect the rear shock to the rear triangle. This keeps the suspension linkage compact to avoid seat tube interference, so your stays stay stubby. It also eliminates the failure-prone rear shock bushing while taking full advantage of the DW-Link suspension's ability to balance travel with chain tension for a consistent, stable pedaling platform that's anti-squat, climbs like a goat, and descends with authority. A specially-tuned FOX Float CTD Kashima shock guarantees that the Mach 6's two carbon triangles will play nicely together while keeping unruly changes in grade and terrain in check with its Climb Trail Descend toggling.
This build kit of the Mach 6 Carbon features Pivot's standard XT build with a few key upgrades, including a FOX 36 RC2 Kashima fork and DT 275 Spline 1700 wheels, both of which are normally reserved for XTR builds. The burlier stanchions are a welcome addition, as they give the Mach 6 even more enduro cred by stiffening the front end up for better tracking on downhills. The 10-speed XT drivetrain featured here may lack the shiny newness of the more expensive models' one-by setups, but the combination of two chainrings and an 11-32t cassette range means the Mach 6 XT is equipped to handle virtually any situation.
