We're thinking about heading out to AC, but have never been there. Am I a correct in assuming that I should stay on the boardwalk? We're looking for a little bit of gambling, nice dinner and a few drinks. Any suggestions? I'd rather not worry about driving around.

Definitely stay on the boardwalk..I suggest Ballys or the Taj Mahal..about 4 long blocks apart. Pickles Deli in the basement of Ballys has great food. When checking in..especially if it's midweek..be sure to say it's your anniversery and you'll get a nice upgrade...I did that with my ex and got bumped up to a huge suite with a 42 inch flat-screen...two bathrooms and on one of the highest floors with Ocean views..got like 79 bucks a night...crazy..be sure to bet the max amount on slots...You're better off betting five nickles at a time than one quarter...or even three quarters vs one dollar...and if you win over 1200 in a shot...be prepared to fill out a
W2 tax form..I believe there's a Bobby Flay restaurant in the Borgota..make a reservation a few weeks in advance if possible..

I guess you have the Marina area, the boardwalk or the rest of AC which is awful. We've had good luck at Resorts which is next to the Taj & typically gamle in both. It's been a few years since I've been but my Mother-in-law goes 2x a year

If you end up broke, walking the boards & looking at the beach, IMO beats walking around the Marina & seeing all the powerboats & big sailboats you won't be able to buy since you lost

Just got back from the Taj. Great place, Steeze...thanks again for the advice. The room was great and everyone was friendly. We lost half of our Gambling money. The balance went into out vacation jug. We'll make it a longer trip next time. P.S. I saw a guy win 16 grand on the nickel slots. :-o

I'm glad you enjoyed the Taj..it's a mad steezy casino..despite the fact that you can't walk 100 feet without seeing a lifesize cut-out of Donald Trump..lol Wow 16 grand on the nickel slots..wowser..Did you go in the ocean? I know the water temperature is still around 70 or so..just no life-guards..

Didn't see any cutouts of DT, thank goodness. Maybe they took them down. I live about 200 yards from the ocean here, so I'm a bit too spoiled. I didn't want to deal with walking through a casino all covered in sand. We only stayed for Sunday night and we didn't get to be to way late, so we just slept in until check out.

From a person who grew up on the Jersey shore (mainland near LBI), I'd say just the opposite...
  • Atlantic City before casinos was a slum
  • Atlantic City after casinos is a slum with casinos
If the casinos are supposed to be so great, then why does one see so much poverty two blocks from the boardwalk?

I'd have to respectfully disagree, Steeze. Parts of the jersey shore are super nice. Based on personal experiences, LBI, especially the north end, (north beach, harvey cedars, loveladies) has some gorgeous, super nice homes, quiet beautiful beaches. And cape may is perhaps one of the most kid friendly beach towns I've been to and/or heard of. You can park your car and never get in it again, walk to the beach, and the pedestrian mall there with restaurants etc.

My comment was sarcasm..hahaha..my grandparents had a beach-house in Ocean City for 15 years and that's a really nice place..

3 years ago they sold their house..and it was torn down and now it's a huge 4-plex..with each unit around 2 million..expensive town for sure

Quit dissing on Vegas... at least they have some good climbing out there.

I was out paddling about the Little Egg Inlet this past weekend... rays of sun slanting thru the clouds above the marsh... & there it was in the distance... a dark, hulking mass...

I have a dream... one day a HUGE storm will come & wash all of AC out to sea... leaving nothing but the pelicans & porpoises. One needs to have a dream...
