    Gunstock 3/19/2014

I was there at night on March 8th. So much fun and great conditions. The acreage that is lit is pretty broad horizontally, although not much vertical, so when you stand at the top of Blundersmoke or Pistol it is cool to look out over all the lit terrain.

    Is North Conway overrated?

There is decent night skiing right in North Conway at Cranmore. I haven't seen a better place to night ski, drive 1 mile then party afterwards than North Conway.

    Loon 02/03/2013

I was there and agree it was variable, but I was pleasantly surprised how well it skied overall considering the rain 3 days prior. I ended on Flying Fox and the piles were interesting for me as a lower intermediate skier. Speakeasy is a fun trail. Boom Run on South Peak was a blast and had the...

    Gunstock 2011 Master Plan

I thought I read about a slopeside hotel on a new trail system off the backside of Pistol. That would be a game-changer. Mountain coaster is a cool idea and will do well with the zipline/summer stuff as others have already stated. With Surfcoaster long gone, they could think even about a...

    Magic, VT - AZ Gathering Feb (10) -11-12, 2012

Bill, Thanks for the PM. I may be in for a day trip. Let me see what the calendar looks like. I'd love to ski a classic like Magic.

Smarts Mountain 19 Sep 2011 - the long way

Nice report Bill. Amazing how the camera flattens out the terrain, that iron bar section is way steeper than it looks in the pic! My thoughts were exactly the same when you get to the first outlook and Smarts is still a distant mass. Then you DESCEND and wind around before climbing again. The...

Dangerous Ski Trail @ Dartmouth Skiway

Hey Bill, Sorry I missed your PM. Smarts Mtn, eh? Fun hill but that fire tower is sketchy! Check your inbox

    Sunapee 2/6/11

Conditions: PP-frozen granular mix, cloudy, low 30's, light wind First TR here. First time out for the year, skiing with a buddy that has not skied in 15 years. I feel pretty good about my choice of Sunapee, since the conditions were generally very good, they must have groomed everything after...

    Rank these mountains

WV is less crowded nowadays because its main competitor, Loon, has gotten bigger and better while WV stood still, not because of tickets limits. New management under the Sununus will hopefully change that. WV does alot of midweek deals and for $35 per person, its a really nice day of skiing.

Suggestions in NH for the weekend of 22-23 Jan

There is a little narrow trail blue called Stillness that avoids the crowds on Valley Run. Much more interesting trail, I am always amazed no one takes it.

    Waterville Valley - 12/20/2010

Thanks for the pics. Love the shot from the elbow of Oblivion with the Tri's in the distance, love that trail, always wind protected with good snow. I am glad WV kept the weekday twofers, that's some pretty decent skiing for $34 a piece.

    Romantic New Years Ski Getaway?

I would recommend Jackson. All the B & B's sell tickets to a horse-drawn sleigh ride at night at this place called Nestlenook Farm, which is ridiculously romantic. Good restaurants, mature adult crowd. The whole town is some sort of Northern New England winter fantasyland. And a nice spa for a...

What are some of the newest ski areas in the Northeast?

LOL. I've skiied there! Went night skiing last year while on business, 2 days after one of those many weird snowstorms that hit PA and missed New England. It is really like 2 different ski areas in one - upper mountain is veeerrry mellow and wide, boring as hell, lower was steep, dimly lit and...

    Waterville Vally sold?

I've skied there a few times and I agree with others who say it needs more terrain. It's a pretty area, but you look across at it from the Tripyramids and you can see how little of the mountain actually has trails. I wonder how much expansion is really possible there. I think I read that 85%...

    Mittersill Photos (September 2010)

Thanks - I've heard good things about Ragged mostly from this board. The only drawback could be, Gunstock is 15 minutes from Laconia (inlaws house where I stay), and Ragged is probably 40 or so. I'll have to be on the lookout for deals there.
