    Bell ski in catskills

Maybe maintenance went to hell when NYS moved Bell from DEC to the Olympic Authority? I used to ski it during "DEC day"with a friend working in the Department, as well as the $25 "Skier Appreciation Days". Been a few years since then. On another note, is the old rumor that they're planning on...

Maine reimposes quarantine, COVID-19 test requirements on visitors from Massachusetts

I need to find a fish-sitter so I can move to MA for the ski season. I'm working remotely anyway (even if I wasn't, commuters are exempt from the quarantine rules). Then I can ski every day during my lunch break:p.

    Any Whiteface skiers here

I prefer Gore - But I don't have a NYS pass this season. My favorite ORDA ski place is Belleayre. (I am an inveterate Blue-square skier 😊) Will probably head down there a couple of times, take a look at their improvements.

Maine reimposes quarantine, COVID-19 test requirements on visitors from Massachusetts

See, that's the stupidity of the thing. I can go ski at Whiteface, which is 120 miles and two hours away, and that's ok. Or, I can go to Jiminy Peak, which is 30 miles and 45 minutes away, and I'm supposed to quarantine because of a state border. Stupid. Also, since we've decided not to rent out...

Maine reimposes quarantine, COVID-19 test requirements on visitors from Massachusetts

For those coming into NY from contiguous states, yes - but the neighboring states do not have the same consideration. So, if I was a MA resident (like my daughter), I can come into NY and ski at Whiteface for instance. But when I return to MA, I must quarantine or test out. As a NY resident, if...

Maine reimposes quarantine, COVID-19 test requirements on visitors from Massachusetts

If you travel over the border frequently, the Covid test-out requirement is onerous. Here in NY, Andy Cuomo says the state is doing "more testing than anyone"... Maybe so, but getting notified of the results can sometimes take up to 10 days, depending on where and when you get the test. I know...

Maine reimposes quarantine, COVID-19 test requirements on visitors from Massachusetts

Why? I'd say that Baker is the idiot. I'll be skiing in more in NY than usual because of the tight restrictions in the neighbor states. I also believe that skiing, being an outdoor activity, is probably relatively safe, especially if observing mask and distance rules. It's the inside gathering...

    teaching kids to ski.

Thanks for the replies. My stepfather taught me how to ski, but I was already a teenager at the time. My daughter took lessons at Pico when she was 5, then my stepdad took her on a number of ski trips and she continued to improve. She now has her son, my grandson, on skis at 8 years old, but he...

    teaching kids to ski.

So a lot of resorts/mountains are curtailing group lessons for little kids, just when I'm getting my 4 year old granddaughter on skis, and wanting the 9 year old to progress. I don't want them to miss a whole year of lessons, would rather not pay for private lessons, but even though I've been...

Maine reimposes quarantine, COVID-19 test requirements on visitors from Massachusetts

We are in the same situation in NY bordering MA. NY is not enforcing quarantine on those coming from "contiguous" states, of which MA is one. Unfortunately, MA is not reciprocating that arrangement. So in order for us to travel to our place at Jiminy, less than an hour away and just over the...

    Massachusetts is open

+2 on missing Brodie :'( (back on topic - sort of). Took me awhile to go back to Jiminy after they bought and shut down Brodie, selling it with a no compete stipulation ... I still have not forgiven Fairbank for that...

    How is Belleayre operating minus

Well, any employer has to pay for liability insurance and workman's comp, and DEC employees pay a hefty portion of their health insurance premiums, it is not 100% state funded. As has been noted, Belleayre has no on-site lodging, and the surrounding area doesn't offer much, either. What...
