That's pretty much how bankruptcy works. Several of family members own small businesses and they have been screwed by large customers going bankrupt in the past, unless you are truly the only vendor for a critical service in the area you have little if any leverage.

Anything is better than NELSAP. I think it's possible to run it successfully as a private club if they're very careful about expenses.

    Mount Snow: Inside Track

IMO when Sundance and Ego Alley get replaced they should just buy fixed grip quads. Mount Snow seems more susceptible to wind holds than most VT mountains and they also get more frequent ice storms. They need fallback lifts on the main face. Maybe Ego Alley deserves to be a fixed grip + loading...

    Mount Snow: Inside Track

No e-ticket, it's a physical ticket and then you have to go to a window.

    Mount Snow condition?

It was very good today, solid cover everywhere and most runs have decent surface conditions. Should be a good weekend.

REI has them for $72, which is about the same price as an advance weekend ticket but you have date flexibility which comes in handy. https://www.rei.com/product/119862/mount-snow-anytime-adult-lift-ticket

Vail Resorts is buying Peak Resorts.

I always defend Peak's management of JFBB & Mount Snow because I liked how they prioritized investing in snowmaking and grooming above all else. But they definitely spent less on lifts than many other operators, Peak's capital investments went to fan guns and supporting infrastructure. I've...

So to summarize it sounds like 3 legit bids for the lifts + property: Bruce Waller: $8.4M Hermitage Club Member Group: $8.25M AW Realty: $8M The first 2 bids were not for the whole package: Rainmaker Mountain LLC: $4M just for the property Boyne: $3.5M just for the lift Looking to collect all...

    Haystack / Hermitage news

Well if you take these numbers at face value it's $4M for the property + $4.5M for the existing lift vs $4M for the property + $3M for a lower spec one. Does $1.5M (17%) off the purchase price matter? It depends on the business plan. I think there are two paths forward with a chance of...

What does a fixed grip quad cost? I'm wondering what the minimum cost for re-opening Haystack looks like, it might be cheaper to buy the mountain and buy a different lift than to buy the mountain and buy the existing 6 heated seat bubble lift.

It's so bad you have to pay people to move to Vermont

My wife and I recently purchased a 2nd home in southern VT (yes, we're part of the problem), and our lawyer pointed out that redeveloping properties has been pretty much choked out by the Land Gains Tax. Considering the additional wear & tear hard winters puts on structures that's one of the...

    Holy Snow Guns

You're an idiot. Killington cheaped out and bought the wrong guns for that job. They should have gotten fan guns for a trail that wide. That doesn't mean these guns are crap. They do exactly what they're designed for - making snow cheaply. The fact that Killington valued being cheap over...

anyone experienced in snowboarding and skiing?

I do both. Skied from 1992-2002, snowboarded 2002-2008. Skied & snowboarded 2008-present. You are definitely right that skis are better in icy conditions. I like my snowboard better in powder, trees, soft bumps and on well groomed packed powder. On ice or crud I'd rather ski. I only hit jumps...

Killington = EPIC FAIL. Late March 2012 no snowmaking edition.

Yes. That is all 100% correct. Again, as part of the day/weekend skier crowd, I totally agree with this. I did 2 days at Killington this year, they were fairly average days. I had better days at Jay, Stowe, Sugarbush for free riding, and at Mount Snow for park. Killington doesn't draw me in...

Poll on Banning Snowboarders from Places like MRG and Alta

I'm a skier and a snowboarder. A large contingent of the people I ride with only snowboard. That prevents me from going to MRG and Alta. I still don't think it's a problem. Let them do their thing. I personally think the mountains are converging too much on one model. High-speed lifts, lots of...
