    Tent suggestions?

In that price range, I'd recommend the LL Bean Microlight. I have the non freestanding version from 5 or so years ago and found it to be a great tent. The downside for me was the weight at about 2.5lbs, but it doesn't look like that is a concern to you.

New England Section Hike Summer 2012

Kent to Katahdin is about 700 miles I believe, so 2.5 months is plenty of time. The trail through CT, MA, and VT is generally pretty easy, although there are some tougher sections (Greylock, Killington). You have plenty of time to get ready, so if you start in decent shape, 15 mpd is very...

Pats Peak - AZ Race Team 1/31/2011

I made it just in time to race, didn't get a chance to look at the course, not that it matters much. Had the typical cranker coming on to the flats. I'm going to try to get there a bit earlier next week to get the suit on. Fun week, and good for the team.

    Pat's Peak Racing Week 2 - 1/10/11

With a team member abandoning us for Colorado, roark sent out a desperation email to try and get us enough skiers to field a team. We were able to get ga2ski and djspookman out of retirement. The course looked pretty straight during inspection, but during my first run on the green course, I...

question about the nh 48x12 grid

You can take as much time as you want to complete it.

    Back pack & skins

I wear it year round for pretty much everything, it's my goto shell. I should add that I don't get cold as easily as others, but I haven't had any issues with it yet.

    Screwed Myself Over... Need Input

When I was at LSC I got a Jay pass during the time they were reciprocal at Burke. Once that ended I got a Burke pass and the Cannon/Sunapee/Gunstock pass. With the Jay/Burke combo I found myself at Jay much more often than Burke at first, but found that I enjoyed Burke more and the short drive...

    Back pack & skins

You should be OK with that shell. I have a Marmot Super Mica that I use year round. When hiking in the winter I usually only wear a thin base layer under it, and leave the vents open. I'll add some light insulation when it gets really cold. It's a bit chilly when first starting out, but I get...

    Poor Customer Service

I agree with you for the most part, and I used to use this approach, but I've built up too much frustration being constantly berated day in and day out for following company polices. People see a kid in the grocery store and try to take advantage of it. I can't remember the last day I worked...

    Poor Customer Service

WARNING - RANT Here’s my take on this. I am a checkout supervisor and service desk clerk at a large supermarket chain. We have cash policies in place as a theft deterrent, as others have mentioned. At night, the lanes get counted and the majority of the cash is collected. When you come shopping...

    John Muir Trail - August 7-21, 2010

Yeah there were a lot of horses around, but I try to be selective about where I take my water from.

    John Muir Trail - August 7-21, 2010

I enjoyed Lone Pine, it's a nice little town. I planned on staying one night then hitching up to Bishop the next day, but I ended up just staying in Lone Pine. For water I just drank it straight. I carried Aqua Mira drops, but only used them once. A water source has to be pretty sketchy for me...

    John Muir Trail - August 7-21, 2010

Bear Ridge to Southern JMT cutoff - 15.3 mi I hit the trail just before 9 today and made the quick descent to Bear Creek and began the long gradual ascent to Selden Pass. I ended up with wet feet after intentionally fording one of the forks of Hilgard Creek to get some moisture into my dry feet...

    John Muir Trail - August 7-21, 2010

A bit old by now, but here it is anyway Yosemite Valley to Little Yosemite Valley - 4.4 mi I got up at 5:30 and enjoyed my last shower for 2 weeks. I packed my pack while eating some mini donuts and headed for the park and ride to catch the shuttle to Yosemite. I ended up sitting in front of a...
