Snow Conditions

1. Powder

Got two great days in at Alta on the 23rd and 24th. The first day was a powder day, we took a shuttle over to Alta in the morning and the intent was to get dropped off at the Collins lift but the line was very long so we tried the Sunshine lift instead which is the beginner area. What a pleasant surprise that area was as I had no intentions of ever skiing over there. As we rode up the lift I noticed tons of untouched powder and trees below us. It seemed that everyone gets on that lift to move over to the Supreme or Sugarloaf lifts and overlooks all of the terrain below. We stuck around the Sunshine area for 4 or 5 runs and had a blast skiing through all of the powder and low angle glades. What a gem of an area that is! From there we did a couple runs off of the Supreme and Sugarloaf lifts then called it a day.....

I had to work most of the day on the 24th but was able to get out by myself for the last 2 hours of it. I stuck to the Collins and Wildcat lifts during the time I had. The first thing I wanted to do was try out Alf's High Rustler. The entrance was very rocky dropping in but once I was out towards the middle of the run it was 2000 vert of smooth sailing steep bumps! After Alf's I did runs on both sides of that trail which were great as well. I believe the trails were the Regal Chute and Stone Crusher. I also tried out the Yellow trail bowl and a couple of runs off of Wildcat lift before I ducked the rope to Gun Tower (which was full of deep powder) and made my way back to the hotel at Snowbird. What a great time Alta was, it's truly a special place!

This is the most false statement on Alpinezone and the internet ever. No one should ever ski "Sunnyside" looking for powder. It's all tracked out. You'll never find freshies. And the day after the storm forget about it... it's all ice.

Glad you had a good time. It was VERY quiet Wednesday and Thursday, I almost want to say less than a normal weekday.

As for Alf's it's like 1,500 sustained vert after losing some on the High T and the bottom runout. Collins lift is only 1,800 vertical... one of my few pet peeves about Alta is you essentially can't truly "ski" more than 1,500 vert at a time. Eddies High Nowhere down the backside is my favorite of the "long shots". Hope you got to do Gunsight, it was pretty good Thursday. I will have to ski Alf's now... haven't touched it in 6 weeks+. It was rock solid slide-for-life. It seemed like it needed much more than 2 feet of snow to be good again but I will have to try it.

You got me, sorry for spreading blatant lies on Alpinezone!!!

Good to know, I read somewhere that Alf's was 2000 vert but I take your word for it over theirs! Once you get past the rocky drop in the rest of the run was great all the way down. Not a single person was on the upper section of run the day I skied it. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to do Gunsight, everything past the Yellow trail bowl was roped off but I wasn't even sure where I was going to be honest with you. My legs were burning from the up hill hike getting over there.
