Seems the only real money though is in podcasts these days. If you want to call that journalism.
If that’s what people prefer, it CAN BE real journalism when done right. Just like there’re real journalism and there’re tabloids, plus everything in between.

Perhaps it’s the replacement of TV? Entertainment and journalism can co-exist.

I’m not a podcast person. But I do tend to have dinner around the time of TV evening news so I can double task. ;)

Personally I really enjoy the long form interview format that so many podcasts use, and that's for anything from ski industry interviews, to comedy to current events/politics. I often get to the end of the podcast and feel like I have had the chance to hear and potentially learn far more about the topic at hand than mainstream journalism in various forms, can often deliver with the hard time limits/word limits that tends to just try and focus in on the "bullet points" often at the expense of the full scope of the topic

I have a hard time listening to people talk, so PodCasts aren't my thing. I instantly loose interest and I zone out. Many of friends are like you've got to listen to this pod cast and I'm like no thanks can I read up on that?

I can't listen to people talking while I'm at work, I need the background noise of music to concentrate. talking would be a huge distraction to me. I also have a 3 mile commute so it would take me like 2 weeks to get through a Rogan interview...

Same. I find the hosts are just people who like to hear themselves talk. Send me the transcript to read and sure.

If I have to listen to something for 20 minutes, it better be a GD, Phish or Tool song. ;)

Third.

Some ‘podcast’ does come with transcript. I sometimes read those.

I supposed one can always feed the podcast to an AI to have a transcript created. But why should *I* be doing that? The author should be doing it. What about those who’re hearing impaired?

People talking puts me to sleep. So I can’t even listen to them while driving.

(I used to have trouble with lectures in school too. Until I figured out I need to be ‘taking notes’ or reading the corresponding text book while listening to the lecture. But that’s not something I can do while driving. And I certainly isn’t going to be “taking notes” for some random topics)

Now find a chart for the annual cost of an unrestricted season pass to ski area X. The chart will look quite different. I'm still paying way less for my Mount Snow pass today than I was 30 years ago, and it comes with access to about 50 extra ski areas. I'll have to make a chart that thanks Apollo for saving me so much money.

Do I love Vail Resorts? Hell no! But anybody can make a chart that suits their needs.

Agree. And it's not just cost. My criteria what's close to me on a pass, what's second on that pass, and will I go west? I might not get that many days in, but enough that any pass that suits my needs is worth it.

Insufficient snow to ski at Mt Snow this weekend. But sufficient snow to land us in a ditch while trying out some back roads to get around an accident on Vt100 while attempting to get to Mount Snow so we can sit in a hotel while not skiing this weekend. Thanks to the nice family who watched us land in the ditch and let the kids stay inside their house and stay safe and warm, and attempted to tow us out of the ditch, and the guy with the truck who stopped and did manage to drag us out. And the nice staff at Grand Summit at Mt Snow who drove us into town for dinner because we never want to drive anywhere ever again……..until next time that is! So while Vail sucks there are many many people out there who do not suck. Happy Thanksgiving from a very snowy but non skiing Mt Snow!

20 years ago you could get a blackout pass at Mt snow for $350. What does an epic blackout pass cost today?

Currently around $650, I'm not sure how much it increased since they first released it for the year, maybe $50. It also includes a bunch of other areas with no blackouts, so not exactly apples to apples.

I'm trying to remember if Mount Snow sold blackout passes 30 years ago. Full passes were over $1000 and included Killington and Bear Mountain in CA. Currently blackout passes don't work for me at Mount Snow. I ski there pretty much every blackout day. I prefer to take my other trips on the less crowded weekends. I'd rather deal with the Mount Snow crowds than deal with crowds at a place I might only get to once in my life.

Mount Snow was one of ASC's resorts. That blackout pass was $349.

What about pre-ASC. Any recollection if they sold a blackout pass? Looks like ASC started 30 years ago. I guess it was 31 years ago I was paying over $1000 for my pass. Only had to do that for a few years. There was a college pass that brought the price down a bit. After college I also had a bond pass for a couple years. I think I paid $1500 for the 2 years that were left on it.
