did you get laid off? If so, real sorry to hear that.
No, but thank you for asking. Voluntary decision. I had been covering all of New England and in some years even Manhattan, LI and NJ as well for the past 12 years across a couple of companies. It meant 100+ nights a year on the road. With a 10 and 6 year old, I simply felt like I was missing out on too much of their lives. So, I found an opportunity to join a company where my territory is only New Hampshire and Southern Maine up to Portland that has every major account 90 minutes or less from home. I'll basically be home every night now except for the occasional trainings and meetings at the corporate office in Pittsburgh. I loved the old company, but the road warrior lifestyle was wearing on me.

China has some factories where you pretty much spend your life in..you never have to leave...thats how you make toasters that sell for 25 bucks. That will never happen here.
This whole thing is a disaster.

Yes. The company I left has the largest technology factory in all of Asia. There is housing for thousands of workers right on campus. And as mentioned above, even the "white collar" workers live at a standard that would be unacceptable to Americans. I love my parents, but I'm not sharing a two bedroom apartment with them, my wife and two kids. There is simply no way that we can conceivably return a lot of this manufacturing back to the US in a fashion that is both cost competitive globally while also meeting the living standards Americans demand.

Best of Luck with the new job DHS! Good choice with the kids. Before you know it you will blink and they'll be out of College...

The next decade will seem to fly by. I still can't believe my kid will be 25 in 4 months...

Good to hear and good move for you. My kids are both in College now and I agree with Jimmy - it flies by! The age your kids are now were some of my favorite years as a parent. Don't get me wrong I love my kids, but they definitely change when they become adults. Enjoy these years!

We're gonna need a healthy supply of suicide nets of we start making iphones in the states. Also the amount of people willing to do work of that nature for 20 ( or.even more) hourly is low.

China's screwed. They were dirt poor before they started to sell to the US consumer market. Their demographics are horrible and getting to the point in 2025 where they will sell more adult diapers than baby diapers. Japan's been that way for years. China isn't exactly a dream place to immigrate to, so they can't import their young labor.

China is not screwed. The USA is screwed. If this madness continues to go on, there will be massive layoffs like we have not seen since the 1930’s and things will become complete chaos. Brick&Mortar along with e-commerce will be devastated. All retail makes all their profits during the 4th quarter. What do you think will happen when there are no products to sell? Currently, most companies are canceling or pausing all manufacturing because the import cost are 150-200% of the cost of the products. Factories will not even take orders now because they can not predict where the tariffs will be next week and they are afraid they will be stuck with finished goods they can’t sell. If retailers start to go bankrupt, who’s going to pay the rent in all the retail store space? Anyone that supports this needs to have their head examine. China has been around for 1000’s of years and they are much more resilient than Americans.

i just got new boots. im actually pretty annoyed. i got my boots 2 seasons ago, worked with a bootfitter, had barely anything done to them (one shell punch on a weird nub i have). skied about 100 days. two weeks ago i was booting up and realized that somehow the plastic on the piece that connects the buckle somehow fucking ripped and was hanging by a thread. hard to describe and i dont have my boots handy to photograph. i tried to secure it with duct tape but thats a temp fix. very annoying. 2 seasons.

i was able to find the exact same boot and size from colroado ski shop near mount snow for 50% off retail. they are a 2 year old model after all. i just ordered those so i dont have to deal with bootfitting again, and so i dont need to do anything to my bindings. fuckin annoying tho. hoping this completely freakish break is a fluke. how the heck does plastic tear!? all i can think is that i put them away in a weird position and they froze in my car?
Take them back to the bootshop. My shop is reputable and gives a lifetime guarantee, wouldnt be surprised if yours does the same if it was a qualified bootfitter.

The marketing personnel, accounting, IT etc. all a fraction the cost. I had a marketing product manager with me visiting customers a couple of years ago. Their US counterparts make $150-200k+ here easily .

I think US pharms/meddev brand managers are perhaps the most overpaid people in healthcare. From my industry perspective, I'd say you're low-balling it on net pay (with incentives) a bit. And I say that with many of them being good friends. Basically, I should shoot my guidance counselor.
