Let's take a poll. How many of you went to Black this weekend? How many bought a ticket? Food or bev? Merch?
I work weekends otherwise I totally would have gone, skied, bought some food and beer which I almost never do at resorts these days.

Loon this year went down to just the gondola for its last weekend, which imo was a really poor choice. It sucks lapping a gondola all day taking the skis off each run, it sucks riding in a gondola when its nice and warm out, and based on reports, the gondola's small capacity could not handle the crowds that showed up. If Loon ran North Peak in addition to the gondola, I would have visited Loon, instead I drove the extra hour to Killington that weekend. North Peak is a great spring pod, and having camp III makes for a great spring lodge with deck, the trouble is another lift has to be run to get to it. Loon also could just run Lincoln Express, keep south peak open, but shutdown the main mountain but I think the aspect of South Peak is not good for snow preservation.

My girlfriend and I went. I bought a ticket and she redeemed an Indy day. We bought food and drinks at the mtn, and she bought merch. We also stayed pretty cheap at the Whitney Inn the night prior. The Shovel Handle Pub is fantastic btw!

On a side note, I want to mention a classy move by Erik. When people started queuing for the double around 9:20ish for a 10am open, he made the call to start the lift a half hour early at 9:30.

And kudos to running the triple for foot traffic going to the Cabin. This allowed the double to avoid stopping/slowing a bunch for downloading like weekends prior and be strictly for ski traffic.

Article from the Conway Daily Sun about Black’s May 3rd celebration. Police not exactly thrilled with how it turned out and the town is already looking into limiting something like this in the future.

There is a noteworthy quote from Erik Morgensen saying that May 3rd’s revenue set a Black Mtn record by double!

Kinda get a “tech bro breaking stuff“ vibe from Morgensen but this season was certainly a win and hopefully the momentum continues.

Hmmm. Sounds like the Police Chief did not think a May 3rd ski party might be this well attended. I'm sure Black probably had no idea the level of interest it would draw too. If your only choice is to drive from Black all the way to Ossipee with persons put into protective custody, something isn't right. Are you seriously telling me Conway/North Conway doesn't have some type of holding Jackson police could utilize?? I mean an event like this has never happened in the Conway Valley before, all should be shocked (Not!!)

If I were a Jackson property owner, I'd be telling that Chief to kindly F off. The success of Black can only benefit the town of Jackson. He can deal with one big party the first week of May which is about the quietest week of the year in the MWV. Maybe the chief is concerned his officers might actually have to do some work in that sleepy town.

Meh, other than the gunshot claim (inconclusive anyways) the article made it sound like a regular spring day ski party imho.

This x1000

Do they want another abandoned lost ski area? Or do they want it to stay open and bring Money to the local economy? Choice seems simple to me.

That’s basically how it felt being there although we left around 3. It was no more rowdy than Killington late May/June or Sugarloaf during Reggaefest. Just an area not used to it is my guess.
