Apparently on my ballot next Tuesday is a proposed "Amendment to Allow Olympic Sports Complex in Essex County on State Forest Preserve Land":

Allows skiing and related trail facilities on state forest preserve land. The site is 1,039 acres. Requires State to add 2,500 acres of new forest land in Adirondack Park. A "YES" vote authorizes new ski trails and related facilities in the Adirondack forest preserve. A "NO" vote does not authorize this use.

First I've heard anything about it. Any reason to vote against?

No, but something tells me that won't be passed. Low information voters and those that don't have an interest in using it for winter sports will see the use of public lands part and oppose it

This is for Mt. Van Hoevenburg, so NORDIC ski trails. The real skiing, in my opinion ;)
And I don't believe there is much (if any) new trail, it's just reaffirming the use they already have there.
They are hosting World Cup Finals this March - Everyone should come!
