yeah that is funny and sott of confirms some of the things noted about the Chief are likely true. Again makes sense to have 1 point of contact between the 2 entities should things come up , especially given the adversarial nature of the past 8 months or whatever...

What was added previous season? Is that also in blue?

No net new for last season, just repairs. The largest being fixing the summit loop (Upper Black Beauty line(s)) and reconnecting them to Upper Maple with a new valve box at the summit. This is the blue line that goes off the top out to the right, then crosses the red and ties back into Juniper lower down. It's pretty critical to get another way down off the top besides Upper Maple.

The other thing we did this off-season was valving Galloping Goose (to Juniper). It wasn't run last year because it required manually moving pipe jumpers to connect it. Nobody wants to do that with bare hands in winter under a foot of snow. I think the plan would be to hit both it and Juniper when that line is run since they will have more pumping capacity this year.

As far as I know he wants to cover it all this year, guess we will see if there are hours for it.

Adding Maple was a great choice. Surprises me that it didn't have infrastructure prior. It's pretty much the ideal blue cruiser the masses want.

It did in the past, it has just been disconnected for a so long time because it was buried and blew out so many times it became unfeasible to keep repairing it essentially was a non-snowmaking trail. The new pipe on it now is the new feed line up to the cabin and was routed a little differently (so it's on the correct side of the trail also).

Found it interesting that we met a lift attendant that was wearing a helmet with a big Black Mountain sticker on it at Granby Ranch. Didn't get a deep conversation but she said she had worked at Black for many years and had lived in Gorham. I wonder if she made her way to Granby via Entabeni Systems who is based in Granby but doesn't have anything to do with the Ranch (except that they are on Indy Pass) that I know of. Granby incidentally took down the RFID gates they had up and were running a Entabeni system (printed clearly on the machines) with hand scanners.

JACKSON — Below is a summary of what Black Mountain and the town of Jackson agreed to Nov. 25:
• Black Mountain must follow all required state, federal and local permitting rules; the town must also follow all laws and respect Black Mountain’s rights.
• In return for the town’s cooperation on liquor license matters, Black Mountain will install two new code-compliant bathrooms at Alpine Cabin by the start of the 2026-27 season. If temporary use of the existing septic is allowed, the two current bathrooms may stay open with medical-need restrictions.

• Black Mountain also will increase parking capacity by 30 percent by Dec. 31 and explore shuttle options with landowner consent and town review.

• Black Mountain will post alcohol control signs and “No Parking” signs on access roads and keep them in good condition. For events expecting 1,000+ attendees, Black Mountain will hire security and comply with state liquor rules.
• The town will reinstate Black Mountain’s ability to sell alcohol at specified locations; extend alcohol service areas as requested in pending applications; renew the applications in March 2026; cooperate on matters needed to preserve Black Mountain’s ability to serve alcohol.
• The town cannot revoke these permissions except through the stated process, which requires first attempting collaborative resolution and then formal review by the Liquor Commission, if needed.
Additional agreements:
• No amplified music before 8:30 a.m. or after 10 p.m., with a maximum of 80 dBA at the property line.

• The town will issue two fireworks permits per year unless state law changes; Black Mountain must follow size, timing, and notice rules.
• The town acknowledges snowmaking is a legal pre-existing use.

• Black Mountain will train staff on OHRV rules within 30 days.
• For any events requiring liquor license extensions, Black Mountain must submit requests early, including details on parking, traffic control, signage, staffing and expected crowds.
• Black Mountain will designate a primary contact for emergencies; the town and police department will designate their administrative contacts and notify each other of changes.
• The Jackson Police Department’s lieutenant will be the non-emergency/law enforcement contact for Black Mountain.
• Both sides agree to collaborate on parking, traffic, safety and other operational issues. The town cannot interfere with lawful business operations of Black Mountain.

• Both sides will work collaboratively to address issues. They agree that increased communication will help manage visitor traffic and impacts.
• Black Mountain will dismiss pending federal litigation within 30 days. Both sides will drop claims and not file new actions in the state case, and each will waive costs.
• Each party will sign mutual releases within 10 days.
• This agreement replaces all prior understandings.
• If any provision is invalid, the rest remains valid. If a release is considered invalid, the parties will sign a legally valid version.
• The agreement is governed by New Hampshire law.

I am not familiar with the mountain so I looked at the trail map. I think he said it is a "top-to-bottom" green circle, but it looks like it starts below the mid-station. Is he considering the mid-station to be the "top" due to the way the mountain is laid out?

Regardless, it seems like once again they are not losing momentum and moving forward.

Any word on if they intend to replace the lifts? That would be a huge expense.

No idea on lifts, but doubtful. He put new drives and made modifications to be able to download on both of them. Platter has a new haul rope. etc. I can't see anything happening with them anytime soon. People would probably be out with pitchforks but replacing the J-Bar would probably be first on the list as it's essentially a semi-functioning museum. It's in rough shape. We just replaced the snowmaking over there too, I am not sure what that hill could be used for. It's kinda too steep for a beginner slope, which is too bad given how wide it is. Maybe a terrain park?

Got it. IIRC the true "top" trail pod was pretty limited--is Black Beauty the only trail in that pod that has snowmaking to the top-top?

Again, they are doing some good things to keep it going. Hopefully no more drama with the town.

No, Upper Maple (open now) and Upper Black Beauty both have snowmaking. They are the only real trails off the summit besides trees. That hand sketched map I posted a page or two back has all of the coverage now.
