Crowd disappeared early today. I went Sunday 12/28 to today Sunday 1/4. I don't usually go all-in during vacation weeks but that is the way it played out this year. While there is plenty of annoyance on the vail M.O., I will say the the recovery on Tues 12/30 after the monday ice & rain was admirable. The best day for me was the 1st Sunday on 12/28 which was a sunny crisp day with super conditions on nearly everything that was open and skied with my son who was up from DC. The New Years mini pow day was nice too but was more or less an hour long after the place got tracked out in record time. Looking forward to some quiet mid week skiing later this week - taking at least a day off tomorrow.

Here's Hop today which has been a good one all week.

sweet day. The couple inches over night assisted. The naturals down the middle, Choke & Ledge, gave additional choices - Sap, Pat's and Natural Lodge also in play.

Nice day 1/8. Didn't get too warm - stayed crisp above low traverse.

Couple of inches of soft wet snow really helped the surface today but that will freeze up good tonight.

They torn down the drive canopy on the Season's double chair today. I think Season's is the only lift at Snow with the drive at the bottom.

@drjeff I see Olympic has opened. Any Intel from the nats today? If I can hit that and Trials it might be worth a ride up tomorrow. If not there then maybe Magic?

below is some carnage from the top of Olympic today. more than a few a bit over their head there. Olympic woods just OK - I bet it improved as it got skied - but I also bet they might close off access - unless the rope drop on timbers so the newbs don't venture onto the top of Olympic.
they did drop a bunch of ropes but the holiday crowds picked it clean

Grand Summit - the FB mob is coming after Peter & Leah - no transparency on the lift issues - they deserve the roast - just tell the mob what the issue is. Every chair ride every guest just eviscerates the place.

Hysterical that they can't even take a win - after the mob came after them on Seasons lift - they tore down the canopy on Thursday - but the lift ran both yesterday and today for the first time this season with no mention of the work they did to open it.

Base at 10:30 ish. I went right over to Sundance then rerouted via Sunbrook back to Northface. I never touched the main face lifts other than Sundance

Probably should just head to Magic. Not 100% open but have to imagine Goniff and TZ are worth the trip.

I thought the place skied great today. Mainly had to stick to the NF due to the crowds on the front. Outpost was ski-on for most of the time it was open. Small line at Challenger for a bit. I did manage to get 4 rides in a a row on Sunbrook without a single stoppage. Most shocking thing ever and that streak is still active.

Patrol dropped a bunch of ropes today, including Jaws... Was report of a bear sighting in the woods between Boulder Pile and Plummet around 3 this afternoon! Snow picked back up after say 5PM, had to clear a couple of inches off the car a little while ago as my wife and I were driving home from dinner at 10 Tables.

Snow surface is quite good now! If you avoid Bluebird and Canyon the lines have been quite reasonable, especially for what historically is one of, if not the, busiest weekends of the year.

Hopefully the mechanics will get whatever is going on with the Grand Summit figured out soon!

Snowmaking shifted to Middle Exhibition, Somerset Road and Drop today with it still running on Gulch, which has some massive piles on the bottom jump area ahead of a stop soon from the Futures Tour

The good doctors relentless optimism is a nice change of pace from embittered locals who do little here other than attack other forum members. How small do you have to be to hate on someone for posting about their kids ?
