This will be super impressive if they pull it off.

The closest that has ever been done to this to my knowledge is Big Boulder used to try to pile up snow on one park run with about 100’ vertical to re-open for a May Day celebration first Sat in May. Would put to shame all the Epic ski area it will outlast - I doubt they will make May anywhere in North America other than Whistler/BC

It will be interesting to see how long they can go. Jason Bayes is making waves by trying.IMG_0002.jpeg

I took this picture about 3 weeks after closure several years ago. (would have been late April) Cliffhanger holds snow very well particularly the headwall. I always thought that if they stockpiled snow up there, they could have a spring set up similar to Superstar at Killington. Well, I guess this year we are going to find out. They have a decent set up with the Trails End bar and grill and its patio right by the Stevenson HS Quad.

Ultimately, it's going to have more to do with what Mother Nature throws at them in that roughly 6 week stretch from St. Patrick's Day until May 1st than simply how much snow they put down on their desired late season trail

The Pocono’s can stay surprisingly cool in the spring. Leaves generally don’t come out up there till mid May. Cliffhanger faces due North like Super Star. They used to have a contest of when the last snow disappeared off the ski trails and that sometimes stretched into June.

They’ve never tried this so I give Jason all the credit. Why not try? They have a good set up with The Stevenson Quad and Trails End Bar and Grill. Sun, skiing and who knows Music? Believe me Jason Bayes gets it. Could be a fun spring

The only things that seem guaranteed based on this are
- they will keep snowmaking going as long as weather permits on Superstar and Nile Mile
- they will be open if they can keep one of them skiable top to bottom

That's why I'm taking the under. Statistical probability.

I also dont really see the point. It's not the same as Killington.

Even if you burn c-notes piling up snow and get it to last to May, the average high in April is in the 50s, and with goodly amounts of non-snow precipitation, so on balance it's not going to be fun skiing or many fun skiing days even if you "succeed". Just seems like a marketing venture, that I dont think will pull in many extra dollars for your marketing expenditure in the first place. Even as a die-hard skier, I wouldn't bother with it.

I’m 95 minutes away. I don’t know if I will go in May, but for at least the last two weekends in April it will likely be the only outdoor skiing I can do that is less than 5 hours away. I will likely hit it one of those weekends as a lot more appealing than driving to Killington for one trail

Camelback has a luxury hotel?

The beautiful mount airy lodge?
Thanks Hastur.... Now I have that jingle from their late 70's and 80's commercial stuck in my head!! I wonder if they still have that room that was in the commerical that had the large wine glass looking like elevated hot tub? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: To top it off, maybe I need to see if I can find a Carvel "Fudgey the Whale" ice cream cake, as those Mount Airy Lodge commericals often ran right around Carvel commericals as I recall!

Well I'm going to bet they make the last weekend in April at the least. I will actually see the state of the base this weekend.

As far as its success time will tell but I could see it doing quite well with amount of population within day trip distance. I've always had to do an overnight to Killington

The set up is good and if they do some special things (like live music) it could be quite the party. It's never been done in the Pocono's, so I think it's worth taking a shot at.

Mt Airy is still around. You can go lose money there anytime you want (Its a casino now)

I’ve seen reports that they have a 30 foot base on one of the trails - that should take a good while to melt

In the ol days we used to earn our turns on Superstar in mid July.....
But I'll agree w/ my colleague and say that it all depends on what Ma Nature brings in late March/April.
