I got that email & was JUST coming here to post that! Knew you would love it.
I do have an MBA and I do agree; it's a joke. And that artificial manipulation of the market is dangerous & financially harmful to the players that DIDNT commit a massive fraud & get "free"...
If the population forecast for doubling in 20 years is accurate, that's a massive problem. Even without better people-moving strategies, I wonder if the front 4 ski areas will need to enforce...
Build two gondola lines with one terminus between LCC & BCC with a large parking lot.
Depending upon whether you're going to Snowbird (at best) or Brighton (at worst), you're probably looking at...
I'll probably do some Christmas shopping, probably hit Costco, maybe the Amish market.
True on both counts.
As a finance person, it would be difficult for me psychologically to "buy", precisely for the former. Especially when in such an area if you do find a great seasonal...
I suppose that's true if we're assuming it's only a short-term blip as opposed to a terrible snow year, as Magic's really the only s.VT place I'd want to ski at.
The problem with buying a place near Magic is their lack of snowmaking. You're basically playing Russian roulette on the snow, which isnt something I'd want to do with may ski real estate.
The opportunity was there to replace it a few years ago rather than spending millions to fix it (and run it at a reduced capacity to boot). The receiver isnt in business to spend a few extra million...
I ski at Jay Peak about 6 times per season, and I often go the entire season without taking a tram run.
One of the funniest bits of this saga is how overnight Stenger went from supposedly one of the most intelligent men in ski business, to using the, "I am but a terribly naive pawn who was duped"...

Not 100% sure as I wasnt there, but probably last year was almost as solid. I skied Magic on December 1st last year and it was legitimately like February, all woods in play etc...
Yet another example.
Again, 10 and 12 minute waits in early December are not normal.
Those long lines may be EPIC & they may be IKONic, but they are not normal.
Curious if you teach a kid who....lets say is 2 in January, will they remember what they learned when they turn 3 the following January? What I'm wondering is if there's a point to starting kids on...
Same; you can find me at.
Jay Peak
Magic Mountain
Plattekill
Smuggler's Notch
Of course, Jay Peak will probably go IKON & Smuggs will probably be bought by Vail, and then I'm screwed. ...
I dont know Mount Snow, but 10 minute wait lines in early December, at least in my life, are not "normal" or something to be happy about.
Twilight Zone is an absolutely wonderful, classic, non-dynamited by some idiot 30 years ago, trail.
You cannot claim to be 100% certain the "crowding" was solely a fluke from a big snow season, while moments later saying you'll be monitoring future years to see if the crowding's still a problem. ...
L.E.S. machine may begin to kick-up next week, Platty sometimes does well with that depending on wind.
Surprising. This will be rock skis conditions for sure.
The best combo is AWD or 4WD with snow tires.
That way you get the traction & acceleration benefit as well as the stopping & turning benefit.
A better way to phrase this, is that it brings the same skiers to the hill more often.
Because you are only considering people who ski numerous days per season.
It's also apparent from your post that you have absolutely no idea how few days the average North American skier gets on...
