    VAIL SUCKS

Statistics are dangerous things. A man with one foot in boiling water and one in an ice bucket is, on average, comfortable. or Statistically speaking, the average resident resident in Miami is born Cuban and dies Jewish

I am trying to stay positive, late March/ April can bring the goods....but sitting on my deck this evening I killed my first mosquito. So not happy.

    VAIL SUCKS

The Sugarbush "First time to lifetime" learn to ski program seems to be successful. Take 3 lessons and "graduate" with a free season pass for the year (the deal included rentals, lift ticket and 3 2-hour lessons) You could complete the "program in a weekend. Used to have an add-on 4th lesson and...

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

Echoing what CD said, this afternoon was wonderful spring-like skiing...although a month early. The rain departed, the sun came out and it was a blue bird afternoon. Stein's was the most fun in, like, forever. Huge wales, soft bumps on the edges, even the scraped off back sides of the wales were...

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

Excellent morning today (work calls were cancelled so went over for a few runs...well, more than a few) They got a a good 5-6 inches from the squalls yesterday. Moonshine, Mall, Sunrise, Morning Star all skied great. A couple of high speed groomers too. They're blowing snow on Steins, Coffee...

Depending on one's age and location. Possibly the world's most overrated beer was Coors before it had national distribution. Brings back all kinds of bad memories. Friends would bring back a case from a Colorado trip and savor it. I never understood.

Anyone Been to Brundage or Tamarack in Idaho?

The Storm Skiing Journal podcast has a great bit about Tamarack out today. Sounds like a great comeback story.

Changed from light drizzle to snow here in Fayston (1400 ft) around Noon. Temps are falling.

    Gate Judge

It's hours of mind-numbing monotony surrounded by minutes of gut wrenching terror. Dress warmly and pay attention to the racers, things can happen quickly. Most racers have no issues, the few that do can create quite the conversations at the base post race. There's a reason the sign up sheet...

BTW, great opening video up on the Sugarbush web site right now. Looks like Johnny B has been doing a little more work than just talking to us on AZ, Nice work.

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

It really was a great day at SB today. Me thinks they are being a little conservative on their snow reports. Got home to Fayston at 5 and was greeted with at least fourteen inches of fresh (and unfortunately unplowed) snow. And it's snowing again. Might need to get some early runs tomorrow...

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

we had a few flakes around 5:30am (Fayston at 1400'), then no precip on the hill until around 9:30, then freezing rain, then nothing, then sleet around 11, then freezing rain, then nothing. The report wasn't that far off for a very variable day (Accuweather wasn't any better) But we did have...

    VAIL SUCKS

Wonder what happens with places like Nashoba and Bradford? Huge ski schools, school groups, junior programs...quintessential "feeder hills". Both Fletcher and Sawyer are getting up there in age. Are they attractive to the likes of Vail or Alterra?

I've heard that Blazers, etc. will be lunching in the Gate House. Valley House Cafe as we have known it is no more.

Jet Blue is pissing me off

To echo what Machski said, booking way out (6-9 months) is almost a guarantee that the airline will muck around with your itinerary. Also, it's no guarantee that you'll get the best price. The yield management algorithms are getting increasingly sophisticated. I'm seeing many instances where the...

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

Former Sugarbush VP, Amber B, is now running Solitude. Rumor has it Solitude needed serious help with F&B and she coaxed Gerry to postpone retirement and go help turn it around. He used to run a consulting company that did that kind of work.

Jet Blue is pissing me off

Airlines work in an alternate universe...and I fly every week so I'm within their gravitational pull. Did a same day r/t to NYC 2 weeks ago on Thursday. (Bought tickets 1 week prior) BTV/EWR $140 on Unitied. Same itinerary from MHT was $635. The BTV airport is lovely.
