Different weather and winter specific forecasting Websites, Apps & Maps. What are you using?

Whoops - forecast.weather.gov; edited my response. I'm sure anywhere you go to at weather.com will just throw up a zillion ads and trackers.

Different weather and winter specific forecasting Websites, Apps & Maps. What are you using?

I agree that the point-and-click option on forecast.weather.gov is the best for a consensus forecast for a mountain/elevation of your choice. I also like to keep an eye on what the various models are showing to see if there are trends in the longer-term outlook. None of the sites has all the...

    The Saddleback Thread

Wow, looks amazing. Thanks for sharing. Maybe I shouldn’t wait until March this year…

    The Saddleback Thread

Awesome! Let us know how it’s looking. The Casablanca/Muleskinner area was fantastic last time I went. It’s a bit of a schlep, so the further you go, the fewer tracks you see…

    The Saddleback Thread

Saddleback tweeted/posted this today and I figured it was time to resurrect the thread for the year. I ski Sunday River 95% of the time but keep an eye on Saddleback because it's fun for a day trip or two a year from our place at SR. It sounds like they've gotten the good end of the last few...

    Sunday River 22-23

Nope, no snowmaking on Upper Downdraft over the last weekend and it's still closed. I hope it's on the list soon. They were blowing snow all over the mountain this weekend and it turned what could have been a pretty marginal weekend into a lot of fun. Airglow/Black Hole and Vortex were my...

    Loon South Peak Expansion

Nice - thanks for the report! I was going to head up for a day trip later this week and was hoping there’d be some trees/bumps available. I want to demo new skis but if there’s only groomers it’s a pretty incomplete picture.

    Sweet Spot for Saturday?

Mr. Parahelia is up at SR for the weekend and reported that the electrical issues Saturday ended up having a silver lining... lots of people gave up by late morning Saturday. So as additional lifts came online in the afternoon, the lines dissipated and it was still snowing for much of the day...

Who wants to move to Salt Lake?

It's true that elite private institutions have higher graduation rates than many publics, but the correlation doesn't prove causation. The overall student body at BC is quite different from that at UMASS. While there are obviously exceptions, the students at BC tend to be wealthier, with a lot...

Rating Your 2021-2022 Season (or So Far....)

Well, I guess it's time to admit I'm not getting out again; April 29 at Sugarloaf was it for me. No grading in this season's reflection; I have enough of that to do for my day job. The basics: 44 days, which I think is a new high - not bad for a weekend warrior. 40 at Sunday River, 2 at...

    Sugarloaf in April

I skied Sugarloaf today. The amount of coverage was incredible for 4/29, and it snowed lightly for most of the day. Closing day is this Sunday, with 50+ trails open. I know they're too far away from people for Boyne to deem it worthwhile, but boy could they give Killington a run for its money...

    Sugarloaf in April

Nice! I'm heading there for Friday, glad to hear the naturals are still in play, I don't mind dodging some dirt/grass...

    22/23 Passes

Yeah, I'm not sure how it will work out in practice. My hope is that with 3 days at Big Sky/Brighton from the gold pass + 5 days from the Ikon base, there will be some options to work around blackout dates no matter who is getting snow that year. At the very least, it's good insurance against...

    22/23 Passes

We initially bought gold New England Passes but we just pulled the trigger to upgrade to platinum (which includes Ikon base). I'm on sabbatical next spring and we'll finally be able to ski out west with the kids (no vacation week mismatch). In a way, it's probably good that we had to wait...

    2020-21 Sunday River

They sure know how to deploy Eddy for maximum kid happiness. A couple of weeks ago I was at south ridge and a bunch of mini runners (seasonal program for 3-5 year olds) were having a birthday party in a quiet corner of the upstairs after the day’s session. A parent must have alerted management...

    2020-21 Sunday River

Mine love it, too. That arcade is an expensive babysitter, but everyone always has a good time. Service has been efficient every time I’ve been this winter, impressive given the labor landscape.

    2020-21 Sunday River

I've been thinking about that... We still have our bird feeders out at the condo, but it's probably time to bring them in. We learned that the hard way in summer 2020, when I heard some noises at night, looked out the window, and saw a giant negative space with two eyes, feasting on feeder full...

    2020-21 Sunday River

Blowing snow on White Heat on 3/22, and planning to hit some other areas tonight? I'm impressed, even if it is season pass selling season.

    2020-21 Sunday River

Agreed - we’ve had a great season at Sunday River despite subpar weather. Today was just terrific. The sun is melting things fast, but there were awesome big bumps to be had on Shockwave and Top Gun. The vibe at White Cap was all spring - people spilling out everywhere, music, slush. I just...

    3/12 Jinx Thread

No kidding. The open trails were completely barren along the way (though the woods were fantastic). I couldn't believe how deep the snow was along the traverse; I could see thigh-deep holes where snowboarders must have stepped off the narrow packed track while skating. Weird thing was...
