    Loon's grooming capabilities?

They do as you said at times. But they will knock all those flat, almost a guarantee after this past storm. East Basin runs have the best chance of staying ungroomed (I toss Rolling Bear in with that since it drops to East Basin).

    Loon's grooming capabilities?

Well, they only have one official Double Black (Ripsaw) and pretty much groom it every night. Loon's one weakness is that they groom almost every trail flat every day. Occasional small xones of seeded bumps and if Tripke Trouble is open, that is left natural as it is the only non snowmaking...

Does it always piss hot rain right before or on Christmas in eastern ski country or does if just seem that way?

Sunday River got too much sleet. Ungroomed super tricky, boarders have it better today for sure. Wind starting to howl now too. Though we have some prism effects occuring:

Does it always piss hot rain right before or on Christmas in eastern ski country or does if just seem that way?

Quite sleet compacted in Bethel, woke up to sleet pelting the house around 330a. Driveway had about 5 inches but it was dense stuff from the sleet. Nice freezing rain coat on top too. Oh well, net gain of material and compaction should set woods up nicely. Now, back to the snow please Ulr...

The reason Vail garners the hate is their centrist directives and operation. They scrub out any individual vibe at their resorts and replace it with a Vail carbon copy. Now, are they running Crotched a bit different from Sunapee/Attitash/Wildcat? Absolutely, it is not a destination resort, it...

So, after looking around today, I'm thinking Eureka and Quantum Leap will not be seeing snowmaking this year. Years past they had SR7 ground guns at each hydrant, this year there are none prepositioned. They still could but they have to move guns and hose to do so. Top Gun still has guns at...

As a side note, can definitely see Snowmaking on Double Refraction and Brilliant/spectra on MH today. Cannot tell if Pri is getting any, that is the only real interesting run over there aside from the liftline which isn't on the trail map as yet.

SR North in Maine should avoid most of the non crystalline flake stuff. Saddleback and SL for sure. Regardless, most ME meteorologists believe the ME mountains will get a foot or so before anything else given up 2"/hr snow rates forecasted from midnight to 3am.

Ok, Agony line is shot and will not be used at all this year. Air hydrants were removed and capped. Snowmaking happening on South Paw is using two guns at the end of South Paw line onto lower Agony and two at the Punch valve house blowing up Agony. Usually they use connections on lower Agony...

Well, in all fairness, none of the homes under construction are ready for occupancy up there this season. So why burn Snowmaking capacity for that terrain? Only 1 trail off the top of Merrill is lapable back to the chair. The others dump you out in South Ridge. I am pretty sure Dana Bullen...

Double Refraction, yup it got Snowmaking as I skied the end coming out of Yetiville today. Could hear some guns up top, but did not see any lined on Ski Back connection onto Ridge Run after the tunnel. Those are the more interesting runs, Double Refraction is more boring than Lolla. Bit you...

Well, I guess it did get connected. Still odd they did not denote any of the 4 trails as Snowmaking coverage on the new trail maps.

    High Priced Lift Tickets

The model has shifted to that as pass sales = known revenue streams. Day ticket sales do not do that year over year as a bad winter = drastically reduced day ticket revenues. Hard to run a business like that and invest to improve/modernize. The smaller areas still basing on lower cost day...

Sugarloaf West Mtn Expansion and HSQ officially a go

That's because almost no one skis to Sugarloaf's actual base. Superquad is a good 400' vertical higher than the bottom of Snubber. Loaf really is only 2400' very of so.

At Mt. Abram today, great hill and only $35. There is affordable skiing out there. Bit of a crowd given how nice conditions are.

Oh, they slide BlackHole about every three years or so. They have slid Shockwave a bunch as well, including a 150' slide or so while it was open that swept at least 1 skier down with it several years ago now. Not very deep and skier was ok but obviously startled quite a bit. With all the new...

    Loon South Peak Expansion

Undercut can be a blast of and when Loon gets ample natural. That said, it's exposure angle causes it to get blown out by NW winds so you have to hit it while it is dumping or they actually have gotten several storms in a row to be good and not super boney. There was a good lower portion for a...
