    2020-21 Sunday River

I hate to say it, but the Jordan lift typically gets the most wind holds. If it is windy at the River, it's likely to be windiest at Jordan. Little white Cap at the far other end seldom shuts down for wind, as it is well protected. White Cap (Tempest) seems to keep running in the wind. Barker...

    2020-21 Sunday River

They got an inch and a half last night, and wow!!! Buttery smooth skiing until it skied off today. We did a couple runs on Lost Princess and Vortex, that helped with some of the hard packed moguls. Otherwise it was a great day there. My buddy asked what we did to deserve this? I replied...

I thought I saw Top gun getting blown before agony the past couple years.

Okay, this is going sideways, we've all been there, done that, just thought some real discussion might be interesting.

    Skier dies at Whiteface

Cervical skull fracture> Seems like that is basically where the skull and vertebra meet???? Basically broke his neck and maybe some skull damage as well. If it was that much impact, would a helmet really have prevented death? They are only effective up to the speed at which you basically fall...

    2020-21 Sunday River

I found Lost Princess. After skiing down it, the best skier in our group said it needs to soften up just a bit, a little more sun on it. I told him it'd be a little warmer in 10 minutes!

White heat and Downdraft were both soft and edgeable. Awesome day!

    2020-21 Sunday River

Downdraft and Black hole are open. Downdraft, in particular, skied really nice today. Soft and edgeable. 4 laps on it! Having fun! Lines aren't too bad, mid week, of course. About the only game in town, teh smaller local mountains are just opening up and only have a few trails available, so the...

    2020-21 Sunday River

I gotta say you can not fault the River for their snowmaking efforts. They are blowing all over the place and going back and blowing maintenance snow. I am just happy to be skiing at the river, other local ski areas simply are not doing too much right now.

    2020-21 Sunday River

Jibe did ski better today. The crowds were a bit bigger, Friday is the new Saturday with folks starting their weekend early. I saw little White Cap was groomed out, Assumption anyways, I can't imagine they didn't do the whole of it, but no lift operators to run the Little White Cap chair. The...

    2020-21 Sunday River

It was a brisk cold windy day today, and the crowds were sparse. I think the weather and being a Thursday all contributed to it. As I skied around, I could see snow guns on American Express, which we skied under, White Heat, Airglow and Black Hole. I just gotta say I am impressed with the...

    2020-21 Sunday River

I actually skied Wednesday twilight with the grandkids. I tried to get the ticket loaded onto my bronze pass for me, but I'd have to pick up a ticket for each of the boys. So I went inside and they gave me three lift passes. I thought it strange a little bit, but the passes worked for Wednesday...

    2020-21 Sunday River

Wow, what great conditions yesterday. I took off the holiday week (bronze pass) and with the fresh snow, it was such a nice day!!! I started out skinning up the hill for an hour and skied 5 hours after that. Longest day of the season. Normally the skinning takes the energy from me a bit, but it...

    End of paper trail maps?

I have contacted the River about replacing some of their large sign maps. They are getting sun faded, and of course, people use their poles to point out certain spots on the maps, further degrading them. Maybe next Summer, they might see their way to do so. Signage is not such a big deal at the...

    End of paper trail maps?

To me, it seems "everyone" grabs one and then, they are hard to use with gloves and being stored in pockets. Fairly regularly, I see them on the snow under lifts. I much prefer looking at the large maps at the top or bottom of the lifts. Much easier to see and I'm not fighting with a small paper...

    Your 2020 / 2021 Ski Season Thread

Hey folks, I gotta tell you, retirement is great. I have 20 days this season, on a weekday only pass. No crowded weekends or holidays. You can also choose to live near a ski resort that blows a ton of snow (Sunday River) so that even in a bad winter, you can ski. Most of my days are 3-4 hours...
