    Valdez, AK / Chugach Mtns.

http://web.mac.com/oncloud9/iWeb/VT%20Ski/Welcome.html April 6-12, 2008 Great trip with Valdez Heli-Camps and Skiclinics.com (we were a separate group inside the VHC with Dan Egan as our coach). We hit very good conditions, lots of new snow, and flew 4 of 6 days. The nice thing about VHC is...

'Dacks vs. Greens vs. Whites Smackdown

Let's do this thing ! Let's have a giant, free for all, no holds barred smackdown on which mountain range is the bestest of the best, and why. How about weighing in on the ski areas themselves, the snow, the scenery, and the backcountry. Pros and cons. Maybe we should include an analysis...

Ski area snowfall calculations / information.

Been thinking about the usefulness of most ski area snow reports. What would core skiers (that's you guys/gals) find to be most useful in terms of understanding the true "snowiness" of an area ? What popped into my head was: Base totals. Summit totals. Mid-mountain totals. Single snow...

    Interesting article in Backcountry Mag.....

....this month on BreadLoaf Wilderness (VT, east of Middlebury, West of Green Mountain Crest) backcountry. Guy has been skiing this stuff for 15 years and says he's never, ever bumped into another skier. The area is huge, and it gets the "snow goods" very nicely.... Not sure I've heard about...

    Technical clothing tailor....

http://www.specialtyoutdoors.com/ The woman who runs this, Penny, was great to work with on my North Face FreeThinker shell. I bought it, and realized after doing so that it is an unbelievable shell.....with one glaring design flaw. The hood does not detach or self hide in a zipped...

    Early, pre-opening "powder" passes....

....wondered what folks thought about resorts selling "premium" day passes (and perhaps a season's pass surcharge isn't far behind) where you get an hour of lift use before the general lift opening that day. Fresh tracks....for a price. Read recently about some area offering this (can't...

    Favorite "on mountain" views...and why...

I'm bored...and thought this up. Yup, not much mental horsepower at work at the moment. So, what's your favorite view from a trail here in the East ? We're not talking trail difficulty, aesthetics, or the ski experience, but the visual aesthetics....mother nature in all her natural...

Book/Technique Approach: "Ski the Whole Mountain" by Eric Deslauriers

Been waiting (and wondering) when someone would put forth information regarding skiing "new" skis that didn't just tweak "traditional turn teaching to fit it to shaped skis", but instead built a new approach from the ground up. Seems that book is here. Read through it twice now (great photos...

    Blizzard Titan Eight

Anyone with direct experience or feedback on these boards ? I've read reviews, heard some good things, and would appreciate any additional data as I try to compile everything on this board. Think it would fit a niche nicely in my board line-up.

Snowfall totals - historical & methodology

Got to wondering if there is anywhere where true, verifiable snowfall totals for the some New England resorts, say for the past 20 years, are posted. I'd be curious about the true season totals, but almost more curious about, say: 1) Number of 10+ inch storm days, and the months (or dates)...

    Oh....so that's what they call them....Soft Addictions...

http://www.lifechallenges.org/create/WrightJ.html You know, I've been thinking a bit lately (usually a bad idea). About the gap between my ski "dreams" and my ski "reality". Every year (and they click by pretty fast these days) I have this idea in my mind of what I'll do to ski better...
