How many of you have the ski patrol phone number on your phone?

It just occurred to me so I took a look at Sunday River App. Scroll down to the bottom and there is this prominent "Emergency" button. It seems to lookup your location with GPS, and send the information to the emergency service and make a call. Very nice. Do all mountain apps have...

How many of you have the ski patrol phone number on your phone?

Very good point. A few years ago, I was at Mont Blanc, Quebec. Skiing with my daughter and son, first thing in the morning on a very very cold day. It was beautiful but the mountain was empty. In the middle of the mountain, my daughter crashed and had a bad tumble at fairly high speed...

    AAA roadside assistance?

My battery dies on me when we went up to Quebec for skiing vacation and got really cold. AAA membership works with CAA, and you can even call the same 1-800 in Canada and it connects to CAA (although AAA smartphone App does not work in Canada). We got jumped and drove to Canadian Tire for a...

    Skiing with a Drone

Wow, pretty impressive. It is interesting that in addition to "Follow" mode, it has "Lead" mode to fly ahead of the subject and shoots back. The video shows short example of that for kayaking - I wonder how well does that work for skiing/boarding.

    T Mobile Test Drive

I switched from AT&T last year and it is working out ok for me. For my daily life, it is better coverage at home and ok at work. I'm looking forward for iOS 8's wifi calling. Price is great that after $80 a month for me and my wife's iPhone, adding my son's iPhone (my old unlocked at&t...

    Wingsuit Jump from Everest

To be more precise, most wingsuit guys are benign. They just exit a plane at 12-14,000 feet like normal skydivers, fly around in wide open sky with a few friends (or more) and deploy parachute at safe altitude of 3000 ft. For most average skydivers, it can be done safely with a little...

    Mountainside Condo's at Sugarbush fire

My guess is that condo association will ban the usage of fireplace by the guest pretty soon.

    Mountainside Condo's at Sugarbush fire

Mountain smelled with nasty smoke for the whole day (they canceled some kids program for that) Although fire started 1AM, lots of smoke were still coming out in the morning, and it seemed to have put out through the day, but then by the time we were leaving at the end of the day, not so thin...

    Drone view of ski resort

You may also need to invest into stabilizer mount, which is optional: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/974188-REG/dji_zegoprogmbl_zenmuse_gopro_gimbal.html Saw many reviews that without this, video will be way too shaky to be usable. ▶ DJI Zenmuse H3-2D Comparison - CarbonCore...

    Drone view of ski resort

Came across interesting video from Wawa - birds eye view of the resort taken by drone. I'm fantasizing of a drone, programmed to autonomously fly with me while I'm skiing and take video of me.

Got my 2 year old on Skis!

No way :-) That is the end of her first season and she skied about 10 days. We had her mostly on the leash through out that first season, and we really didn't instruct her at all and left it to her instinct. At this point, she was not doing any wedge and did not have any control of her...

What really happened to those glistening former Winter Olympic sites?

I got curious and searched around a little bit regarding the state of the remains of Nagano (1998). They seems to be doing well in this regard that everything are still in use or repurposed. For example, main stadium was converted into baseball field. Even the bobsleigh/luge course still...
