    Mt. Kearsarge Backcountry- 2/20/15

It looked like a couple other people had skied it before the last storm, and there was one other person who was skiing it the day we were there. I don't know how much traffic it has seen since then. Also, I'm curious as to how skiable the hiking trails would be... and whether there are...

    Mt. Kearsarge Backcountry- 2/20/15

And we hit the refresh button down here last night! More freshies for the 617. :) Go get it! BTW... Apologies to the admin. I meant to post this in Trip Reports. Not sure what happened.

    Blue Hills Backcountry 2/13 & 2/16/2015

I believe I've hiked through that area, but haven't been there in a while. I will definitely have to go check it out. Thanks for the heads-up. With that snow last night I'm sure there are fresh lines all around. Hopefully I can get to it before it gets rained on and freezes up Wednesday.

    Mt. Kearsarge Backcountry- 2/20/15

I've been thinking about trying to ski Kearsarge for a while now. It seems like the powerline stares me down everytime I'm driving south on 89. It was COLD last Friday and pretty windy, but we sucked it up and finally crossed this one off the list. There's alot to like about this place...

    Wildcat Valley Backcountry Trail- 2/6/15

I think it is mostly due to the fact that when I want to travel 2.5+ hours for resort skiing I go back home to Burke, and when I'm in the area for BC skiing, there's just so much fun stuff across the road. But I've definitely been missing out. Looks like a great place to spend a powder day.

    Wildcat Valley Backcountry Trail- 2/6/15

This was my first trip to Wildcat (for backcountry or resort skiing), despite the fact I've been across the road a number of times for Sherbie and the Gulf of Slides trails. I was pretty impressed by the glades on skier's right on the skin up the mountain, as well as the sustained vertical at...

    Blue Hills Backcountry 2/13 & 2/16/2015

Not mine. Although, I was impressed with that line as well. I was way too busy tracking up the glades in there. It was amazing that even on Saturday afternoon there were still a lot of untracked lines in the trees. It seemed like most of the folks who ventured in there stuck to the hiking...

    Blue Hills Backcountry 2/13 & 2/16/2015

I only skied down to the road that runs along the southern edge. I think that 128 may have been re-routed at some point. I remember biking over near the pond and seeing an abandoned section of highway in the woods. I wonder if they were referring to skiing down to that part. This may be the...

Lost Hiker in WMNF Found Dead

Here's an interesting and fairly plausible take on what might have gone wrong from one of the climbing guides on Mt. Washington. http://nealpinestart.com/2015/02/18/a-young-climber-perishes-on-mt-adams/ He indicates he has guided groups to the top in similar conditions and that a trip up...

    Blue Hills Backcountry 2/13 & 2/16/2015

Those of us living in Boston don't have to drive too far to find some great fresh powder runs this year. I did some exploring around Blue Hills in the last week after having avoided the place for a few years. There are some great glade runs in there- steep, powdery, challenging (albeit short)...

    Big Burke announcement

Sad about Trout River closing. I was a big fan of Rainbow Red where I could find it on tap. Never liked it out of the bottle for some reason though...

Three Places you intend to visit this year that you haven't yet!

I was originally thinking that Lincoln would be better to avoid getting trapped on the wrong side of the ridge by bad weather.. especially on a multi-day trip. And to avoid having to climb the whole slide at the end of the day to get back home if the conditions are dicey at the top of the slide...

Three Places you intend to visit this year that you haven't yet!

Bingo. The sat photo is a little dated so the question is whether the stuff has filled in. Which way did you approach Lincoln's Chin? Over the ridge from Franconia or up from Lincoln? I've seen that powerline (and the one next to it) and wondered if they had decent skiing. Let me know if...

Three Places you intend to visit this year that you haven't yet!

Just to mix things up a little, here are three of the backcountry spots I've been meaning to visit: "Lincoln's Chin" (NH) Unnamed slide (near Charlemont, MA) Unnamed drainage basin (NH) Also wanting to check out this slackcountry in Southern NH:
