    VAIL SUCKS

You might be referring to Save-A-Lot. It was kind of a low-end grocery chain that tends to open in depressed areas.

2023/01/29 - Pico / Killington - Interconnect trail, Catwalk, abandoned Juggernaut, new K1 lodge - guide

I'm too old and fat to probably ever attempt the Interconnect or Juggernaut, so thank you for these beautiful pics and the detailed explanation. Some day this summer when it's pushing 100 degrees, I'll look at these pics and be in my happy place.

New job/second career for someone in their 50's

So we all know there's a bazillion available jobs out there, but could someone suggest a "second-career-type" job for someone in their 50's who's been in a high-paying, high stress job dealing with hostile members of the public for almost 30 years, and who's decided he just can't do it anymore...

    Anyone ever skied North Carolina?

Useless fact of the day.... Banner Elk NC (where the OP bought property) was home to a Wizard of Oz-themed amusement park. It's abandoned now, and the pics you can find of it online are creepy as hell.

Anyone know how to fix cracks on the plastic, sand-filled weights used on a barbell?

Damn, that's embarrassing... here I am thinking about what binds to certain polymers, etc. Duct tape it shall be.

Anyone know how to fix cracks on the plastic, sand-filled weights used on a barbell?

The sand isn't leaking out yet, but it's probably just a matter of time. I'd like to try to salvage them, but realize I may just need to upgrade to better equipment.

    Skiing Alone ...

Ditto the above, I like skiing alone... no waiting for slower companions, no taking breaks when you don't want to, etc. Try it and, if you don't like it, don't do it again....BUT, you might just find you like it, and it might increase your numbers of ski days in the future.

    Quebec eastern township areas intel?

You might be thinking of the series of trip reports to the Laurentians that NELSAP posted on Snowjournal 2.0 during the 2018/19 season. They had lots of good information and wonderful pics from some of the smaller areas up there. For anyone interested, search "Quebec Ski Trip" on Snowjournal...

Looking to get back on skis after 25 years

I took about 20 years off myself, and found that when I returned it was like the proverbial "riding a bicycle." Rent stuff or find some cheap equipment on craigslist until you know you'll stick with it. Don't be overly concerned about the "straight ski" thing.... your older technique will work...

    Ragged Mountain experience?

Ragged's terrific, and you probably won't find many people here who would say otherwise. If you think your daughter will go another 3 or 4 more times before the end of the season, it'll be money well spent.

Why haven't all-you-can-eat pizza buffets caught on in New England?

Other parts of the country have Cici's Pizza and other chains that offer this daily, but nada in New England. What gives?

    Boot Dryer?

Call me cheap, but my $8 plastic Walmart fan has worked great for years. Stand your boots side by side with about 2 inches between them, tuck your gloves between the boots, prop the $8 Walmart fan atop the boots, and voila!, everything's dry in a couple hours.

    Ragged: Mon. 1/7

I'll be there this Friday. Birches was fun before they added snowmaking, but it was open so infrequently that I guess the addition of snowmaking isn't a bad thing (and it obviously gives mountain ops a narrower trail to open up than the much wider Exhibition). Also, I've known them to groom...

Take your kids out of school for a powder day?

In 5th grade a good friend of mine's father took him and his sister out of school for a week to go skiing. I was stunned because his parents were always sticklers for school attendance. Long story short, a year later the father was dead from a previously undiagnosed cancer. To this day my...

    (h)Opening Day Thread 2018-2019

As someone who's without heat and hot water from the gas explosions in Lawrence/Andover/North Andover, I wouldn't mind a couple mild weeks ahead. Once I have my gas back, the temps can plummet and the ski season can begin.

I tried that and my emails keep coming back as undeliverable. Thanks anyway.

    Assistance with joining Snowjournal 2.0?

Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong place or if you'd prefer other boards not be mentioned, but I was a longtime member of Snowjournal before all their technical difficulties, and I've encountered one problem after another in trying to become a member again (the registration link doesn't work...

    Scariest Lift Descent

I'm not a snowboarder so maybe that's why I don't get it, but honestly I don't understand how seasoned skiers can have such strong feelings about an unloading area. You're in the far right seat on a 6-pack and want to go left off the lift? Do a little snowplow, let others go where they want...

    Catamount Ski Area News

Not to mention the fact they have one of the best ticket deals around.... $20 if bought online, and usable any Monday through Thursday except for the usual blackout periods (basically Christmas and February school vacation). For the 85% of skiers who can enjoy a day at a place that isn't...

    Recommendation for New Skiers

Can't go wrong with Okemo or Mount Snow. Look online ahead of time for discounts as both places' walk-up ticket prices are pretty high.
