Utah ski trip 3/28 to 3/31 (plus an April return)

Nice @Tonyr !!! I was out on the slopes same days, but just a little out of sync with you. Skied Soli on Fri and Monday, Alta on closing Sunday. Warm, but fun spring conditions in the AM all three days. Alta, Apr 21, 2024 The nice young fellow next to me at the grill had run the SLC...

    Your 2023-24 Ski Season Thread

I hit 60 on a beautiful spring ski day at Solitude on April 19. That is 59 lift served and one day a few weeks ago when I did some low angle skinning for four hours in a snow storm. It's been a very good ski season in Utah, not as crazy as last year, but consistently quite good and this...

A basin end to the year? Not northeast but worth it?

I second the recommendation to take advantage of the opportunity to ski A-Basin in late April. I skied a couple days at A-Basin and one at Breck in early May 2019. That was a good snow year and I really enjoyed both mtns. The snow was great at both. Here are some notes from that 2019 visit...

    Eclipse PSA

Did something different today for Eclipse Day, 8 Apr 2024, went up to Solitude, UT for snowshoeing and partying. This is what the eclipse looked like at peak totality in UT (~50%) at 12:30 pm MDT, not too different from a normal day? Here's what it looked like with a filter. Then we went...

    Eclipse PSA

Going up to Solitude, UT today. I think peak totality here is 50% at about 1230pm MDT. Partly sunny here. Should be a quiet day on the mtn. Not sure if we'll even notice the eclipse effect, but I'll keep an eye out.

    The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

One of my adult children is moving to Jakarta for two years. If I visit next winter I could see breaking up the trip by skiing in the Alps coming or going. Anybody here use their Ikon pass in Europe. Was it a smooth RFID transaction?

I ate my last PBJ sandwich in the Mid-Gad Restaurant at Snowbird yesterday. It was the last day of operations for that lodge. They are tearing it down and it will take two years to build a replacement. (31 March 2024 was an excellent powder day.)

    4aprice Western Adventure in Photo's

Sounds like month of March in CO was similar to UT, lots of snow, especially the last week of the month. I agree about Regulator Johnson at Snowbird, a long steep, scary run in firm conditions. Gets even less fun if you throw in low visibility. I have a pair of Head Titan Super Shapes 80mm...

    United airlines

From my limited experience dealing with them in UT over the last ten years, I'm fine with them. Used several for contractors remodeling son's house. Generally good, hard working people, straight shooters. Had a great lawn care kid who unfortunately just left a few months ago on 2 year...

    United airlines

Flew to the Caribbean in Dec 2022, but otherwise most of my travel is by car the last five years. The slog west in Jan can be intense winter driving, but the drive east in May/June can be really fun while exploring many National Parks and other points of interest. Don't miss air travel, but I...

Utah ski trip 3/28 to 3/31 (plus an April return)

@Tonyr as usual you've picked a good time/destination for another one of your frequent ski trips. Utah has gotten snow almost every day for a week straight. Conditions excellent everywhere. It's hard to hook-up:) Didn't see this thread until today. And I didn't decide to ski SolBright today...

I plan to ski Solitude and maybe Brighton (if connector open) 30 March with son and friend. I'll look for a guy in yellow with facial hair and two buddies? I look like this:

    Your 2023-24 Ski Season Thread

Hang in there Dick. You're a good man. Everyday on the slopes is a blessing. Dementia/Alzheimer's runs in my family and that of my wife. We're both ok now, but who knows what the future holds?? Vaya con Dios.
