Balsams Grand Resort teams up with ski industry legend Les Otten

    We're mid-week skiers. Never a problem.

Balsams Grand Resort teams up with ski industry legend Les Otten

Loved everything about the old ASC empire. We owned a hotel unit at SR, and got to use all the hotels in the company for short money using the Space Available perk. Even got into the Summit at Canyons, for goodness sake!.. Combined with the old All=for-one pass, we went everywhere for the...

JHMR Plans to Blast Alta Chutes

Funny story. Years ago we took our two sons, then in their mid teens, to JH. Riding up the lift. we looked over to Alta Chutes and I remarked that I can't believe anyone skis those. My kids looked over and said, "Ah Dad, we did those this morning a couple of times.." That's how much I know.

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

That's exactly how I felt until a couple of years ago. Made it to 73 before giving in. No regrets.

    The "Sugarbush Thread"

E-bikes are a God send to those of us in our 70s who still have the ability and desire to get out there. I've ridden an e-bike on the road and rail trails for the past 2 years. So has my wife. Previously I rode a Bianchi road bike. Normally I use the power assist maybe 1/4 of the time. My...

    VT Flooding

My son moved to Colorado about 20 years ago. He always said Mass. drivers were so much better than Colorado ones. But CO drivers are much more rules conscious and mellow. Here's an example of the difference: One time on I-70 there was construction and a sign that said "left lane closed...

LiftBlog Reports that Smuggs and Stowe are Exploring an Interconnect Gondola

Been there, done that. Weekday powder turns on Smuggs and the high speed lift with no line. Not much better than that.

    Best time to buy skis?

Second Level 9. Bought 2 pairs from them. Bought bindings, too, and had local shop mount them. Easy outfit to work with.

Balsams Grand Resort teams up with ski industry legend Les Otten

I thought what Les did with ASC was awesome. Too bad it couldn't last. We had some great years when I first retired. Bought a unit at the Summit at SR. We had space available privileges at all the other ASC hotels, so we hopped around to all of them for just the housekeeping fees...

Balsams Grand Resort teams up with ski industry legend Les Otten

I was a college fraternity brother of one of the Tillotsons. He took us up there senior year for a crazy weekend. I didn't ski then, but we did some snowmobiling on trails out behind the hotel along with drinking plenty of cold ones. Several years later when camping with our kids, we took a...

    Sunday River 22-23

For sure! I can remember back in the old days you could get behind a truck and stay there all the way to the turnpike.

old guys setting PRs for ski days

I'm 76, retired for 20 years, and fitness is a year round, non-stop routine. Has been for most of my life. 3 days/week on road bike, 3 days/week in gym. 1 day of rest. Plenty of squats and fairly heavy (for me) dumbbell work along with some machines. Full body stuff. I finally broke down a...

    Sunday River 22-23

Could never understand why the state of Maine never built a divided highway from the turnpike up into the Rt. 2 corridor. Easier access into the Bethel, Rumford, Farmington, Rangeley region would be am economic boost to some fairly depressed areas.

Be careful. Remember all those who bought early at the Jordan Hotel. People paid $50-60,000 for quartershares that you can get now for $5,ooo or thereabouts. Maybe their value will go up a bit with the new lift, but never back to the original prices.

    2023/2024 Season Passes

My wife and I got this last year as a supplement to our Sunday River bronze pass. It was even cheaper then. We hit Okemo, Mt. Snow and Stowe, places we hadn't been in a long time. It's a great deal, especially if you live close to one of the mountains. Sometimes it's good to be old!

    VAIL SUCKS

Enjoy Snowbasin. Do the Olympic downhill course. And be amazed at the most beautiful restrooms ever in a ski lodge. Hell, I thought I was at the Ritz Carlton.

    Sunday River 22-23

Way back in the early Otten era, there was a fairly detailed plan for a village at the Jordan Hotel. A poster of it used to be on the wall at the old real estate room at the Summit. Many people purchased quartershare units at the Jordan based on these plans. Some paid well over $40=50,000 for...

    High Priced Lift Tickets

My son lives in Ft. Collins. An avid skier, he pretty much has given up due to I-80 traffic. On a weekend day, he has to leave Copper or Winter Park to come home by1:00 PM or the 2 hour ride becomes 5. That's after getting up before dawn to beat the traffic out to the mountains.

Destination Ski trips and the high associated costs for Flights, Hotels, Transport & Mountain ticket comparison & Suggestions.

One of our best ski vacations ever some years ago. We flew into Reno, bused to Tahoe, and stayed at Harvey's on a ski and stay package. Shuttle to Heavenly and other areas like Sierra. Cheap and even won some money in the casino.
