    Tuckerman's death

https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2019/04/11/person-killed-avalanche-washington/hCqENe1HEBWyJnIH0yzptN/story.html Sad. I hope the person who died wasn't the victim of a slide started by someone else at least... It has been a few years since someone died up there which I guess encouraging given...

    Cannon, 3/24

Cannon was pretty great today. Lots of sun and snow (obviously), everything open. The only icy bits were at a few of the busiest intersections (like Link) and Hardscrabble, which was ice and bumps. Front five were all bumping up with soft moguls. Didn't get over to Mittersill as there were...

    Waterville Valley, 2/23

Waterville was pretty great today. Other than Wayne's and Ciao which were basically sheets of stiff skied off ice/snow substrate, everything else was excellent. The new tow at the high country was fine and felt faster than the old chair. Lift lines were maybe 10 minutes mid day but then they go...

    Voting now open

https://www.boston.com/sports/skiing/2018/12/11/new-england-best-ski-area-bracket Won't you join me in voting for Wa-Wachusett over Killington? https://www.boston.com/sports/skiing/2018/12/11/new-england-best-ski-area-bracket

    Waterville 3/11

Pretty fun, almost all open other than some of the Green Peak trails. A few patches of boiler plate here and there on steep stuff but really minor stuff. They got 3"+ last night which was good to have. Good: High country had lots of deep snow piles still. Sunnyside steeps were all open. Lift...

    Completism

How many of you have skied every area in either VT or NH? I've hit many of the big ones in NH but certainly never places like Granite Gorge or Whaleback

    Magic 3/2

Pretty great- by the end of the day almost the whole place was open with heavy, deep snow. Like the kind you have to work to turn in. Not a fun time for a beginner skier but if they groom tonight (nothing was groomed today) maybe the greens and blues will be fun runners. Snowed all day, pretty...

    Wind holds on Friday

Looking at Friday's forecast and there might be a bit of fresh snow out there but there might also be a lot of wind. BW promotes itself as being a place with few wind holds - anything similar in VT? I think NH is going to be a mess due to the coastal nature of the storm in terms of winds which...

    Cannon 2/18

The good: 3-4" of fresh snow, 30˚+, minimal lift lines after about noon. Lots of fun skiing from patch to patch of snow. A lot of soft moguls waiting to catch the inattentive off guard. Front 5 were bumping up but I assume that will get flattened tonight. Didn't get over to Mittersill but it was...

    Bretton Woods this weekend

Thinking about going to NH Sunday with a intermediate skier. I like Cannon but we've been there a few times. I am thinking Bretton Woods would be a fun mountain for them but is it going to be crazy crowded as a ski and stay place? Never been on a holiday weekend...

    Waterville

Anyone been there lately? I was thinking of heading that way in the next week but 50% of their hard stuff is closed. Does Green Peak Expansion not have snowmaking or they just don't use it? Yet to see any of those trails open than the green/blue ones.

    Strava heatmap

Pretty cool - if you look at the Strava global heat map, you can clearly see all the ski areas right down to the trail outlines. You can also see which trails are the most popular by intensity of the map. You can also see some open secrets if you look carefully...

    Cannon 1/21

Cannon was, as probably a lot of mountains, empty for a mid-January Sunday. I assume due to the AFC game. Rarely waited more than 2 chairs. Conditions were pretty good considering last week's rain. Everything that was open was good. Some trails were a bit scraped off like the upper left stuff...

    most generous black diamond rating

I was at Wachusett yesterday and had never noticed that the trail below the Polar lift is rated as a black diamond even on the lower half of the mountain (Salamander Cutoff). Is this the most ludicrous black diamond around here? Honestly the headwall at Blue Hills is a more 'real' black diamond...

    Waterville Valley, 3/24

Went up to Waterville today and it was excellent. The way up top was closed for the season due to a dead lift but pretty much everything on the main mountain was open, including the blacks on the south side (Ciao, True Grit, etc..) They got 5-6" of snow yesterday and not a ton of people up there...
