Is it possible to lose the passion for skiing?

In short, yes. I lost it for a couple of decades and then found the passion again. The "drive" combined with the passion got me out 35 times in 200/1 season! This caused a bit of a stir at home so I've cut doen a bit. The passion and drive got me to Alta/Snowbird and the JH. The passion is still...

Gotta have the Chocolate Chip cookie! Nestle's Crunch Bar (cold) a ritual that goes back to my teens. Hot chocolate for the drive home.

    Impressions of Catskill Skiing

The 'Daks get all the attention, but the Catskills are gnarly, wicked and challenging too! NY State's "best kept secret". . . . and there's Bobcat! The Little T-Bar, The Big T-bar, no grooming, no snowmaking and a very basic lodge. Tight old school trails! I LOVE this place. Hard to find it...

    What do we seek?

My SO HATES the cold and has a -1000 interest in skiing or other outdoor activities. This is good because it saves a lot of $$. I could not have taken my Utah and Wyoming ski trips if we had to pay for two, so that is one bright side to it. She gets her time going out with her friends, so in the...

    What do we seek?

I guess we're all ski addicts. I think about skiing several times a day every day. I open a can of Glidewax just to get the smell of skiing during the summer. No one but you crazies know this about me. I hide it from my wife and kids because they don't ski and I have already driven them crazy by...

Skiing today v. back in the day

While I remember the past as being a really wonderful time, if I had used equipment better suited to me in my youth, I'd be a better skier today. I find it much more fun skiing on shorter skis as I like to carve short turns. At 49, I'm a weekend warrior. I sit at a computer terminal five days a...

    Jackson Hole Trip?

My trip to JH last season almost cost me my marrige. I left part of my soul there. We were booked by Nov for the first week in Feb, and just my luck (not usually) JH got 5', (count it IIIII) of snow the week before. One powder day, then just fantastic Blubird days for the rest of the week...

First trip for the 2006/2007 season

It's been Okemo for me the last few years. There's plenty of room for more skiers. K-mart tends to be much more crowded than Okemo opening week.

Powder Ridge not opening this season

In the Catskills is Bobcat. About 900' vert and two T-bars. I would volunteer at least one day doing whatever if it would help keep the place open. PR is too far for me. If 20 or 30 people can give one day or more that could help keep a small area alive.

Will you ski in any conditions

I hate wind. It makes any other weather worse. No, I don't partake in any activity that requires wind, obviously. If I see a winds of 10 -15mph, that's about my upper limit because I know it will be worst at elevation. Low winds and gusts are a fact of life and are tolerable. Temps down to...

Shoulder surgery in ~1 week, recover in time for skiing?

I shattered my shoulder July 05, and was skiing Nov '05. Limited range of motion, but I can pole plant just fine. No surgery, just a lot of painful PT for a few months. My guess is that the surgery will not damage it the way I did and your recovery may be quicker.

The "Harry Potter Trail" at Magic and Their New Motto

Wicked  marketing, using "Potter". . .younger kids will relate. . . The Albany Times Union newspaper had a pretty decent article about Magic in the Sunday issue. The writer stated that Magic openly supports boundary to boundary skiing- maybe that has something to do with the 'Hike'...
