How Not To Do Social Media

I'm not making a commentary on oil production in Alaska but this is pretty funny.

Shell Oil made a campaign where users could submit their own text on top of images for an ad campaign.

Needless to say, it went south really fast.

It's just such a social media blunder by Shell I can't believe they even did it.

Apparently it's a parody site. Still pretty funny though!

I can't say much because I'm actually working on this project. But it has been crazy to watch the back-and-forth between Shell, Greenpeace, Yes Men, and others. Even from the inside it's hard to know who's actually behind which things at times. The media were the big suckers on the fake "Arctic Ready" ready campaign. What really reeled them in were all of the fake tweets that appeared to be trying to suppress the site. Reporters glommed on thinking they had a big scoop and ended up doing all the work towards perpetuating it. Pretty brilliant.

Caller reported a minor traffic accident had resulted in hurt feelings but no other injuries.

The woman that writes those was actually on the news recently as one of those human interest type things.
