This morning my wife took quite a tumble on her second run in Mineral Basin at Snowbird and heard the sound none of us ever wants to here--a pop in her knee. Thank god we could get her out easily to the lift and that ski patrol has its main base at the top of the mountain where RJ and the guys got her taken care of. She downloaded on the Tram and was seen at the clinic. The doc was pretty certain it's torn and the X-Ray showed no fractures (thank god).

Needless to say we fear her season is over, even though it is long here.

Anyone been through this before? Any advice?

Man that sucks!!!!!!!

I guess the recovery starts now. The point is to come back stronger than ever. The time off part hurts but is part of life I guess. Vibes to your wife but many more seasons to come.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope she has a speedy recovery. I've had two friends with torn ACL injuries. One had a really hard time with the rehab and recovery, while the other healed 2 months ahead of schedule.

That stinks.

When I blew my ACL it was in March and I was skiing again the next December.

My ex tore her ACL at MRG while skiing with me a few years back. The doctor said she could have surgery, or she could learn to function without it. She wasn't nearly as fanatical about skiing as I was, and last I talked to her (we're still friends), she hadn't gotten surgery and was functioning fine. She could probably ski again but chose not to

On the positive side you have a stay at home babysitter now when you want to go skiing ... ;-)

That sucks TB. I have torn both of mine. The bad news is that her season is probably over unless she is brave and wants to ski with a brace. I have a freind doing that catiously now, and is going to have surgery in March, but I don't recomend it. The good news is that the surgery is very effective and she should be 100% by next season. I had one fixed in 1997 and one in 2004, and both knees feel great to this day. The best piece of advice is simply to work hard in PT and with the home exercises. I did, and was cleared to ski 5 months after surgery.

That sucks, sorry. My sister tore her ACL clean at Sunshine Village one February. She got surgery as soon as possible and recovered quickly enough to kick my butt in a 5K in late July of the same year. It's been fine ever since. Just gotat get done what needs to be done and follow the program. Hopefully her recovery will go as well.

The plot thickens. Just got her out of PT. Their senior PT guy says BS that it's a tear. No swelling, no pain, no effusions. They are puzzled and think its something else. Fingers crossed that it's just minor and she'll be back out soon....

I am not a Dr and I do not play one on TV. However, I have had friends and family deal with this issue. Get an MRI. Insist on it Best way to find out what is going on and check for other problems. Good luck.

Yeah, she is taking it easy right now. Not walking much, icing it, keeping it elevated, and waiting to hear back from the PT and Ortho Surgeon on Wednesday. MRI is definitely in order. Fingers crossed that we are looking at a few weeks instead of months.

Reconstructed ACL here, patella graft, 18 yrs ago, all's well, knocking on head. I've had a few setbacks here and there, but all and all it's been great. It'd be great if it's not torn, but if it is, she should be 100% recovered by next season. This season may not be a wash with a brace. I didn't ski when I injured/rehabbed mine, I never wore a brace. I think I went a year or two before getting it repaired, I lost my job, and it would have been a preexisting condition on a new insurance policy, so I figured I better get it done, glad I did. Good luck.
