[FONT=&quot]At approximately 11 a.m. on Nov. 26, a gondola cabin from the American Eagle lift, currently under construction, detached from its cable resulting in the cabin falling to the ground just after exiting the base terminal. [/FONT][FONT=&quot]The incident occurred during the testing process. [/FONT][FONT=&quot]The lift was not open to the public and no one was harmed.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]A review by Leitner-Poma, the manufacturer and construction contractor, indicated that no critical components were damaged and we do not anticipate additional delays as a result of this incident.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]The safety of our employees, contractors and guests is our number one priority. Copper is working closely with the Leitner-Poma team and the Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board to ensure that, once completed, the American Eagle lift will operate safely and reliably.

Kinda scares me to get on Killingtons new gondola cabins as powdr operates bothe resorts and they are pretty much the same cabin.

Some info that I read yesterday on a ski lifts orientated FB group about this incident, which wasn't listed in this article, is that apparently the gondola car that fell off during testing yesterday hit some construction equipment shortly after it exited the base terminal, and that was the cause of the incident.

Sounds like it was human error and not a mechanical issue

An unfortunate oversight, to be sure. But it doesn't sound like it's worth panicking over. As drjeff indicated, from what I can gather, some sort of loose construction material interacted with the grip in the acceleration/re-coupling process. An unsettling oops. But not a malfunction. Just an oversight, which thankfully was during testing, so no one was affected.

From a 9News piece:

"So the lift is still under construction and inadvertently a loose piece or unattached piece of building slipped in front of the grip when it was launched, we are already well into the repair," said Jon Mauch with Leitner-Poma. "There’s only minor damage to the lift and it’s not going to set us back at all."

While the cabins may be the same, the grips are of a totally different design. Even if there were to be some kind of design issue with the Leitner-Poma grips used on the new Copper lift, it would be very unlikely to affect the grips used with the 90s style Poma terminals on K1. The only lifts at Killington with the LP grips same/similar to Copper would be Snowdon Six and Skye Quad.
