Lake Tahoe views best snow conditions great moutains to check out lodging i loke ideas of staying in Reno and Mammoth
Does Jet anblue fly their from Albany Binghamton or any others airports i close IN Hudson valley ny
Any others information be awesome thanks much appreciated

Skied Squaw Valley in February of 2017. Flew direct from JFK to Reno on Jet Blue. This was the season that Tahoe got 700+ inches of snow. The drive from Reno to Truckee was a little nerve wracking, but the drive back from Truckee to Reno (actually just getting from our condo to the highway to Reno) was absolutely terrifying.

If you stay in Reno and plan to commute to the mountain(s) you should make sure of a couple of things: 4WD vehicle, snow tires, comfort with putting chains on the car (and making sure chains are provided), and a ton of confidence in bad weather driving.

We stayed in Truckee and skied Squaw. It snowed hard the entire time and I think that the talk of there being a lake there is "fake news".

There're "ski bus" from Reno to Mt Rose, Squaw, North Star and maybe even Heavenly. One price including lift tickets.

Mt Rose is a sleeper. Nice terrain, no crowd.

Lodging: the cheapest by far is staying in the Casinos. Mid-week $29-39, weekend $59 give or take.

Mammoth is great. But you need a car to get there. It's also really big. So a day or 2 will be...too short.

Flights out of Binghamton. Lol. there are only 2 overpriced Delta flights to Detroit a day now from Binghamton and nothing else. Albany has Southwest to Denver but nothing to Tahoe.

I skied Tahoe years ago for a 7 day trip. Stayed on Heavenly and did a day at Squaw and Northstar. This was during their drought and the conditions were terrible. Heavenly only had 17 runs open and this was late January. Similar at Squaw and Northstar. You may wonder why I went. This was a group trip and we booked in August. Tahoe is definitely feast for famine.

Though I didn't get to ski much of these resorts, I could easily see the potential. You probably can't go wrong with any of the choices. Heavenly is the biggest and has the best lake views and lodging options. Northstar was probably the most posh and Squaw had the most soul.

This year seams like a perfect year for California skiing. Bring a snorkel.

Most of the Casino hotels have pool and/or hot tub, all-you-can-eat buffet too.

There's a casino 5 min from the airport. It's quite posh, water slide and seafood buffet etc. I'm 95% sure the ski bus stops there too. But it's not the cheapest though. So it'll probably work out well for a short trip. But if it's long trip, and on a tight budget, you'll do better by hailing a Uber/Lyft to a lower tier casino downtown.

I lived in Cali for several years. Obviously we had our own cars so never bothered with the ski bus. But the buffet and the casino hotel we made used of just about every time!

I've since been back every other years or so. The last time was 2 years ago.

But all that, is assuming you don't gamble! Otherwise, all bets are off! HaHa!!! The casino of course, hope you DO gamble. One way to make sure, ski as hard as you can. So you'll be too tired afterward to barely stay awake for the buffet, leaving no energy to think of doing anything else.

I live here at 8400 feet on Heavenly. Stay in Stateline at the casinos, cheap $$. Ski at Kirkwood, Squaw, Heavenly, Mammoth. Ski buses from transit center (walking distance from casinos) and most have free pickup/dropoff at the airport.

Def snowing here. Close to 6 feet thus far in this storm at my house, calling for 8-10 by tomorrow afternoon. 10-12 at Kirkwood and Mammoth. So much so fast today all are closed. No worries, we just skin right out the door.

I will let you know as I am leaving on Saturday for a 8 day rip. A really good friend that we lived with at Sunday River back in the 90's moved there to start a business. He lives at the Base of Alpine Meadows so that is where we will be staying. The only thing I can add is that you want to stay close to the mountain if the forecast is snow. They do close roads when the storms are big. I think we might hit it just right. They are getting over 5 feet or more right now and the forecast is for cold temps for the next 2 weeks and storms this weekend and next week. My buddy is saying that it could be epic. We will see.

Have been to Lake Tahoe 3x and Mammoth once (late July 2017 after they had a great snow year).

We fly Southwest from Albany to Reno. There aren’t (weren’t) any direct flights, we connected in Vegas. Make sure you get 4wd. Check which companies rent from RNO and compare best 4wd prices.

Stay in Reno for a couple nights at a casino and hit Mt. Rose. We stayed downtown at Harrahs. Lots to walk to from there and it’s cheap. Mt Rose is a nice mountain that’s close to Reno and not crowded.

When we did Mammoth we drove from Reno to Mammoth early in the morning, left at like 3am. IIRC the ride was about 4 hours and I drive fast - this was during the summer so the roads were clear. Would be a long ride if it’s snowing. If you go to Mammoth mak sure you check out the hot springs!

As far as Tahoe, we’ve stayed in Stateline(South Lake Tahoe) at Harvey’s casino. From there you can walk to the Heavenly gondola. Heavenly has the best views of the lake. Be sure to hit Kirkwood while you’re there, about a 50 minute ride from Stateline. Also eat at Fire&Ice in Heavenly village....mmmmm.

I have been once and stayed in Truckee. Flew into Sacramento as it was 100 per person less and we are a family of 5. Skied Squaw x2, alpine Meadows, SugarBowl and Mt Rose. On the day we skied Mt rose it was raining at the others. With the highest base it snowed all day. Had a day of 16" of sierra cement at Sugarbowl. The drive back to Sacramento was interesting as was the drive up to both Rose and Sugarbowl.

Mt. Rose will be the least crowded/cheapest at Tahoe, but Squaw has the best runs (although they all have excellent runs). They all have plenty of snow right now as well. Mammoth is farther out but they are also getting dumped on and have excellent runs and a different vibe compared to Tahoe.

Fly into RNO for Tahoe and MMH for Mammoth. RNO is a decent size airport while MMH is not, so it will be much easier to fly to Tahoe. The problem with flying to RNO and driving to Mammoth is that the road conditions are variable and it requires renting a car. You will need to connect with 2 stops if you want to fly out of BGM/SWF, as the only nonstop to the east coast from either destination is B6's daily JFK-RNO flight. Might be easier to drive to AVP/EWR if you only want one stop.

Mt. Rose is a great ski resort, not to be missed. Easy reach from Reno.
The big name resorts are great, but do not miss some of the others. Sugar Bowl, Homewood, Donner Ski Ranch, and Sierra-At-Tahoe are awesome places.

This. I love SAT and Homewood. Tahoe is my favorite western destination. There’s nothing else like it, IMO. Squaw Valley may be my favorites place to ski.

Is it a major pain in the ass to get to each of the resorts via a rental SUV? Seems like Sqaw and Alpine have the potential for major traffic issues due to the access roads up from the lake.

Peak times make peak traffic. Both places you mention are one road in, one road out. Traffic cop is usually at the intersection with 89, doing the best they can. They are probably the worst of the bunch for traffic, so just hang out and have a drink or early dinner, and let the places empty out. Still well worth the hassle.
