Weather.gov forecasted 2-4" of snow, Loon's website called 4-8". Our first Powder day this season? Of course not, never trust Loon's website. But we are expecting some good condition.

We started skiing at 8am, no crowds and we rode up the Gondola. Loon did a good job of making snow this early season and opened up 17 trails. Most of these trails are blue with some green, all groomers, and they literally skied the same. The condition in early morning groomed surface on top of very firm base. Luckily snow started to come down around 9am. Really heavy stuff, keeping the surface soft. As the temperature rose, the snow gradually turned into wintery mix and by noon it was most freezing rain. The rain/snow further softened the snow and made the skiing good. We skied until 3pm before calling it a day. The mountain was empty after 2pm, most people probably went home early to watch the patriots game.

It was a good ski day. But the mountain needs a few days to recover from the rain/freeze cycle unless there is new snow coming.
