Ski area bars and what’s on TV

On any ski day I’m going to stop in the bar for beers. I’m of the opinion that the only thing on those TVs should be ski movies, TGR and the like.

Mostly what I see is Weather Channel, cooking shows (seriously?), and sports talk (no thanks).

I’d like to be more immersed in the ski vibe when I’m at a ski area. Anyone else think about this?

I like the advertisements for slope side condos on a 5 minute repeating loop.

My 2nd choice would be Olympic channel or FIS skiing type stuff. Winter sports in general. Ski movies are OK too but I prefer watching an actual competition. If there is a World Cup ski race happening live that needs to be on the telly.

I’m 100% for that.

No TV's please. I go skiing to get away from the grind , I like taking in the interactions between people having a good time .

Then again I watch very little TV ...saving it for when I'm in a nursing home .:-D

If you’re going into a bar, you’re going to see a TV. That’s unfortunate, but unavoidable nowadays. What’s unacceptable to me is having the sound on. There should always be music playing.

My bar of choice in the Mount Snow base lodge always has sports on their TV's.

I've seen everything from skiing (both freestyle and alpine racing), snowboarding, college football and basketball, NFL, NHL and NBA games as well as PGA Tour golf over the years

Works for me

Thing is, you can get all that at any non-ski area bar.

I hate the sports talk shows to begin with. I couldn't care less what some one elses opinion of anything sports related is; i.e. who's going to get traded to whom, or how this team messed up last night's game, and so forth. The sports talk shows playing at a bar with the sound down makes even less sense, even for those that like that kinda thing. I don't mind seeing a game in action, but get that talk B.S. off the TV at a bar. And I agree, at a ski area, put something ski relevant on.

I’m with you, I’d much rather they show ski videos than news/sports/etc. Last season we noticed that Cho Sun at Sunday River always had great ski/boarding clips on tv at the noodle bar. When we asked what was on, they said that they show the Red Bull Roku station [they have a ski video option]. Which was a great tip - now that’s what we vegetate to in the evenings post-ski. Limited commercials other than the product placement.

Porn, not ski porn, just porn.

I used to work second shift, 3:30 - 12:30, the only thing on TV when I got home were baldness cures, weight loss plans, and get rich quick schemes. It was like, holy shit, they know I'm here. Must be a lot of fat, bald, poor, neurotic people that can't sleep at night.

I’ve noticed the Foggy Goggle at Sunday River shows ski movies sometimes. They’ve been the most consistent I’ve seen.

Rocky Mountain Underground in Breck. Great ski bar. Bar w/ ski movies on one side. Retail ski shop on the other. Have enough beers and the skis start calling your name.

Right where I want to be
I don't mind if the sound is down and music is playing. I can look to catch a score but don't want to hear it. Ski movies are fine, don't care for watching racing of any sort (especially slalom or moguls, speed events are a little better) unless it is the skier or boarder X.

People in public places should not speak above a whisper and should wear those giant cyberman headphones if they absolutely must be distracted by the sound of a television, radio, backpack speaker or whatever their noisemaker of choice might be. Courtesy is contagious!

I always appreciate live sports in any bar, ski town bars are no exception. If there are no meaningful games on then I agree, running some skiing videos or whatever is a good idea. I do like it most when it's a hockey game, basketball game, or ski.snowboard competition vs. golf or bowling or something. And I think having winter Olympic sports on is also a good idea. Something with a winter-y vibe is always preferable. Cooking shows and sportstalk shows are pointless.
