IMHO leaving the board over the GSS stuff is a bit childish and/or naive. This is what happens on Internet forums, best is to just ignore the noise and keep on comin back.

I don't have a strong preference about the post count, but I voted to get rid of it. I used USENET for years without a post count, and I don't think it was an issue. I definitely say no to the "rep" system though. I don't think it's necessary and think it can only cause animosity.

Perhaps what this board needs is not more moderation, but a mediator. I nominate Paul for that job

Normally I would agree with you, but he is tuff to ignore. He posts so much he is everywhere. Much of it is just annoying, but it gets to you after a while. I guess it’s obnoxious, now there are why worse things then being obnoxious, but it’s all over the forum and IMO it’s so his post number will go up.

post whores will be post whores regardless of whether or not they have a count. removing the count won't have an impact on certain OCD inflicted individuals behavior. i don't care either way...but if you remove the count, keep the peaks. I would think the reputation idea would potentially make things worse. $.02 and one more non voter in the poll.

I'm guessing you don't ever read forums like TGR... MUCH worse over there.

like a secret alpine zone society or something? :spin:

AZ skull & bones

One things for certain. When the polls are in and all is said and done, I'll be somewhat saddened. The further this topic is discussed the more humor I find in how serious it is being taken.

AHAHAHAHA....whether the post counts are disabled or not..I'm going to keep posting alot..especially this ski season with daily trip reports..

One thing I would like to see is some sort of stat showing how many posts there are per day, week, month, year...I love statistics..also maybe some sort of database to log ski days, resorts visited, vertical feet and notes..sort of like this..

http://www.paskiandride.com/forums/index.php?act=mtnstat

I would be happy to be in charge of stats..

, and I think overall his contributions are positive.

Fo shizzle..you can't deny my passion for skiing..and most people think I'm funny..but there are always a few wet blankets who drank too much Haterade and ate some Angry O's for breakfast that are going to complain about me..O.K. back to work..

I think its fine for people to get their own feel and work things out, without reputations or post counts.
Given that, I voted no.
IMO Post counts don't matter whether you count them or not.

I'm a prime example. I have not participated here long, and you all figured out how credible I am on some topics and when it was time to call me on BS.

Leave the post count, if for no other reason than to have something to chat about.
Don't use the reputations, that's more like a popularity contest. That's just sooooooooooo high school.

I voted no my accident, please change.

Then proceed to this fine thread: http://forums.alpinezone.com/32129-count-one-billion-4.html
This is an example of why the post counts could be counted differently.

The forums could be set up for post counts to count in some areas, and not in others, such as th Miscellaneous Discussion area. That way, the post counts would be based on posting in Technical areas, Travel, Trip Reports and Community building, and not with the games and rants.

But what value does the post count really have, even if it's only counted in the way you describe? Not to mention that there's plenty of bs posts in threads and areas that are meant to be more 'serious' (for lack of a better word). I just don't see how selectively counting posts is going to make any difference.
