Velonews.com is reporting that Roberto Heras has taken control of the La Vuelta a España (Tour of Spain) by winning Stage 6 of 21. Heras a three time Vuelta Champion took command of the stage during the final climbing sprint at the end.

For details and coverage go to http://www.velonews.com

Another note, American cyclist Floyd Landis pulled out of the event leaving two American cyclists Tom Danielson, Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team and Christian Vandevelde, CSC and one Canadian cyclist Michael Barry, Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team to continue.

As for the Tour de France, I have listed the Top 10 Cyclists for the Stage as well as the Overall Standings including the American/Canadian & Discovery Channel Team Cyclists.

Along with the Giro de Italia, the Vuelta is not as famous in America as the Tour (de France), however it is not any less difficult…21 days of bicycle racing in the summer heat...

Banned substance found in Lance Armstrong's hotel room

From The Associated Press:

Lance Armstrong's record setting seventh Tour de France Victory, along with his entire Tour de France Legacy, may be tarnished by what could turn out to be one of the greatest scandals of all time.

Armstrong is being quizzed by french police after three banned substances were found in his South France hotel room while on vacation after winning the 2005 Tour de France. The three substances found were toothpaste, deodorant and soap, which have been banned by french authorities for over 75 years.

Armstrong's girlfriend and American rocker Sheryl Crow is quoted as saying "we use them every day in America, so we naturally thought they'd be OK throughout Europe."

Along with these three banned substances, French authorities also found several other interesting items that they have never seen before, including a backbone and a testicle.

 This report got a lot of play on bicycling forums in July during the Tour after one of the Italian cyclist's and his wife were arrested for having banned substances in her car...
