Video Burke Mountain: 3/21/09 (Skiing with the Dawn Patrol)

    Date(s) Skied: March 21, 2009

Resort or Ski Area: Burke Mountain Ski Area, Vermont

    Conditions: FG/VC

Weather Report: Sunny skies, lows in the teens and highs only making it to 35 or so...not enough to soften the snow higher up on the mountain.

Trip Report: Well, I had a ticket burning in my pocket and wanted to ski with the Dawn Patrol. It was a fun outing with the usual suspects showing up.

The Original Trailboss found himself on the top of the starting area on the Dippers:

"Whoa sh^& look at all the people!"

Though he did share that molehill with one of the "Brothers Scott."

Those people were the crew. We did Dippers and found them firm and fast. The same was true for Carriage Road and Powderhorn, which we did next. We hit Dippers once more:

Before hitting Powderhorn. Some folks braved the hike to Mountain Marsh and found decent conditions. We did ski Upper Bear Den to Willoughby, and Lower Willoughby, as well as a run down Willoughby to McHarg's, which was decent.

No crowds to speak of, except those gathering to watch Big Air.

We did a run down Shoot/Bear Den and Willoughby while KL and BD took a break. Regrettably, KL got run down by a Big Air Competitor, who deserved kudos for apologizing and taking the blame.

We did migrate back to the East Side and caught up with MK Squared:

And after one more run down Powderhorn, we pretty much called it quits.

    Apres Ski Report:

Well, it was a nice afternoon to soak some rays, so we enjoyed the Big Air warmups and snacked:

Others posed in front of the mountain:

And some made a real mess with their peanuts. Hey, it's biodegradable.

There was a rumor that DS broke a record for number of Coronas consumed in one outing.

    All in good fun....

...so after some laughing and watching some Big Air:

    I went skiing.

We were glad that the mountain put up the safety fencing for us...we don't want the original trailboss going off the side of the trail again!

The lucky trail was East Bowl.

    Leprechaun in the "Lucky Tree"

    East Bowl:

I hit East Bowl three times because the snow that was in the sun in the morning had softened up enough to give a good ride. Well worth it. I also skied Carriage Road to Mountain Marsh and found it decent. Warren's Way, via the Poma of course, was quite firm. I managed to get in a run before the racers took it over. I also skied Willoughby to Lower Foxy's and found that fun. The snow really didn't soften enough for the natural runs regrettably.

I got done at 4pm and headed home. A nice day skiing and catching up with the folks!
