From K's Facebook Page:

"Winter improvements are well underway as we continue to improve the on-mountain experience and overall resort efficiency as it relates to snowmaking and grooming. Here is a quick list of some of the improvements for both Killington and Pico:

Pico Mountain:
•Replacement of 122 snowmaking hydrants
•Upgrade to snowmaking pipe on Upper Pike
•Complete painting project on Knomes Knoll Triple
•New warming hut at summit

Killington:
•Replacing up to 2,000 feet of snowmaking pipe, including sections on Cascade and Great Eastern
•Lift painting: Ramshead Express towers; Superstar Express towers; Skyeship Gondola top terminal; Sunrise Triple towers; South Ridge Triple bottom terminal; Bear Mountain Quad chairs
•Re-grading of unload area of Skye Peak Express
•Re-grading of new Bittersweet trail section
•Extensive Mulching
•New warming hut at Killington Peak

In addition, we have a number of projects throughout our base areas that will take place this summer, more on that in future Killington Insider updates.

Errrrrr riiiight. Really exciting.

What about:

- Repairing the snowmaking on Devil's Fiddle, and cutting back the brush? Then make snow on it?
- Clearing the deadfall in the woods
- Paint the South Ridge Triple CHAIRS, and replace the rubber on the foot rests.
- Midstation on the snowdon triple and or SRT.
- Improving the park layout
- Killington/Pico Interconnect
- Base Village
- Dozens of other things

Oh well. I guess there's a reason the Town of Killington's Food/Lodging/Bar revenue is down 26.2% from '03 to '08. (inflation adjusted)

Meh.

Improvements? That sounds like maintenance. Good that they are doing it, but nothing to brag about.

Well, it's a good thing they hired a super-duper advertising Agency to help them with their branding and marketing...

Killington Signs Factory Labs as Agency of Record

Killington Insider
June 16, 2009

What happens when you mix passion, art, engineering, snow, social media, marketing and interactive content? We’re about to find out.

Killington Resort has retained Factory Design Labs to oversee its branding, advertising, communications and media planning.

“Killington is a legend on the east coast,” said Scott Mellin, CEO of Factory Design Labs. “Our staff has a huge passion for skiing and riding, and all of us look forward to partnering with Killington to modernize brand communications and redefine the eastern ski/ride experience.”

“We’re thrilled to announce that we have selected Factory Design Labs as our Agency of Record,” said Chris Danforth, Killington Resort’s marketing manager. “Factory has a deep understanding of and experience in crafting integrated marketing solutions for snow, outdoor and lifestyle brands.”

Need proof? Take a look at the Factory Labs website. These guys are global leaders in marketing premium culture-driven lifestyle brands. Factory currently works with Audi of America, Oakley and The North Face, among other national and global brands. They are also a bunch of really good skiers and snowboarders!

I can wait for the Killington website's new look.

Prime realestate available in another Highway Star/Killington thread. Don't miss out! This space for rent. I'll throw in a free "ShamWow" if the price goes over $1k.

Wow, I didn't even know that Killington had a facebook page. Do you have to be a top 30 skier there to become a "friend"?

your first three are very reasonable. in fact maybe the snowmaking still works on the fiddle and all they need to do is brush cutting and turn it on. getting the fiddle back online is the most impactful thing they can do other than the inerconnect. will certainly generate some buzz. the trail is there and it has pipe so it's really a no-brainer. cleaning the deadfall & doing some maintenance on the SRT also can be done cheaply. the rest of the stuff is dreamland ...

Killington's website says they have 88 miles of snowmaking pipe. *uneducated question alert* If they are replacing "...up to 2,000 feet of snowmaking pipe, including sections on Cascade and Great Eastern ", that would take...176+ years to replace all the pipe in the system once. It seems like there should be more than that getting replaced each year?

Almost every resort is just doing maintenance, repairs and small upgrades. Nobody in their right mind would be spending millions on major work right now in this economy...
