You know, the one thing the ski industry could never figure out was, "how to do more with Les."

Perhaps he'll have better luck in politics?

We might be shocked...One way or the other...LOL.
Watching real estate skyrocket from urban-owned RE companies... while watching the amount of technical jobs(by unattractive laws to businesses) flounder might be attractive to the more wealthy of the state, which is what has happenned, but what this state needs...while maintaining high environmental standards, is a business-friendly tax climate. Everyone today is either educating or RE-educating themselves...and Baldacci wants more racing, gambling(not that I think that's a bad move!), and cottage industries...and keeps the state's tax laws unfriendly to new businesses....the guy really has a small mind..imo.

(Quoting riverc0il)
..After record levels of infrastructure investment, ME is almost bankrupt and Otten walks away saying his work is done."

..A prime example of the mental capacity of the guy in the state's OvAL oFFiCe in Augusta...;-)

$.01...ranting now OFF.

Sheesh..can you follow the rules...NO POLITICS!!!!!

Hopefully he has learned a lesson or 2 from ASC and the demise thereof, but having a business man in the governor's office as opposed to a career politician may be just what Maine needs.

To bring it back to skiing, people remember Les for ASC. However, there is more to his story than that. He purchased Sunday River when it was a tiny community ski area, and turned it into one of New England's premiere ski resorts. In the early days, he went as far as to sell wood and scrap metal to raise money to invest in the mountain's infastructure. He essentially started with nothing and built a thriving resort that is still thriving today. He clearly has vision. Unfortunatley with the incorporation of ASC he bought too much, too fast, and took on too much debt. Hopefully if he does run and is elected he will use the same vision he used to build Sunday River use it to turn around Maine's economy.

Prior to SR, Les worked at Killington....

Politics, but the problem was the restrictions on the bailout money. He actually wanted to use it to solve SC's debt issues. Heaven forbid he use it to solve problems instead dumping $700m down the toilet.

Him taking a fairly inexpensive vacation sounds like a good thing to me. And the legislature is out of session, so the only reason it got any attention at all is that he isn't in contact with the rest of the world. Had he spent a weekend in Las Vegas or going to a Broadway show on a private jet with his wife because he promised it to her during the election or looking at dogs for his daughters, etc., there may have been a small story run in S.C., but no national attention. I work with a guy who refuses to give out contact information when he goes on vacation, should we be running national stories about him? Really, the news media was massively irresponsible on this one. The governor didn't go missing, he just went on vacation during a legislative break.

Turns out he was in Argentina and have an affair. He may have to resign. Not exactly hiking the appalachian trail!!

He even took out a loan from Killington to buy it, I guess you would call it "owner financing", pretty creative!!

The guy is either stupid or emotionally unstable. Time to step down. He is a pretty good writer ...

Stupid is bipartisan.
