Report #: 1

Report: At long last, my season started. Though things are off about two weeks, it felt like forever. There have been some naysayers in here, but there were only smiles at the mountain today.

My plan was to get to the mountain at about 9:15 or so, to allow folks to break up any frankensnow so that I would get soft turns. It was a good plan.

I will admit that I was a bit  at having not one but three "Sugarbush Sirens" approach me between the car and lift, warning of doom and gloom at the top, "big snow whales," and "experts only" terrain. I was  as to if I had a sign that read "gaper" or something. They were well intentioned, but it made me wonder....was it that bad? I was prepared for the worst. Just before boarding Bravo, one of the lifties looked at me and said, "welcome, thanks for coming out."

Well, here are Win's "sketchy" conditions...I'll let the pics do the talking.

Pretty rough going! Edge to edge coverage, nice soft snow...especially from about 10-11 or so...and not too crowded.

Sandy even did a photo shoot at the summit:

I skied about 10 runs before taking lunch and skiing one more. At 12:45 it was getting kind of icy and the bumps were getting odd. It was not bad at all IMHO. I downloaded and headed home after visiting with SRO. A good day and thanks for opening!

It was a fun day yesterday. I was on the sixth chair up the mountain and you can thank me for breaking up some of that "frankensnow". First run on Downspout the snow was like styrofoam in a few places. Good news is that is did soften up and was skiing quite nicely by 10 AM. Conditions were better than expected. Looks like there was pretty good natural snow building up on Spillsville and lets hope for more terrain options opening soon.

Looks nice... I'll be on snow by 12:30 today. Looking like 2-4" of refresher later on and a big storm Wednesday.

Good on you, TB! Maybe my standards are pretty low but, if that is sketchy on opening day, I don't know what you call what I had to endure last month.

Re: Sandy's picture -- unless the final shot came from another part of the mountain, the slope angle looks much steeper in Sandy's shot than in TB's.

I was being :p because the mountain was saying that things were sketchy...and as you can see they were not at all!

They were taking the shot at the Upper part of Organgrinder...which is where the old gondola used to end. I am pretty sure that I did take the picture of Sandy "taking a picture of" that guy. It is a decent pitch there.

All I can say is that my head is much clearer thanks to a day of skiing!

Wow, I'm in the wrong line of work... I would kill for half that many days!

Great pics by the way!
