What I meant is I don't see the need to limit characters, it's not like we're back in the days of 2400 baud... ;)
The 140-character limit makes Twitter distinctive and IMO valuable - when people use it correctly - because it is such a quick read. I can get reasonably caught up on the latest developments in a subject area of interest in a minute or two, with links to more info if I want it.

Too me it seems like twitter is like texting to all of your friends at once...
I don't see it as fundamentally different from Facebook status updates except for the shorter character limit. And the kind of crap some people put on FB makes me think even more that the Twitter character limit is a stroke of genius ...
