MYFOXNY.COM - Nicole Suriel's drowning death was devastating to her family, classmates, and community - and now an investigation has learned that it all could have been avoided.
The investigation found that the teacher never had permission from parents to take the children to Long Beach.
On top of that, the teacher let the children swim even though there were no lifeguards on duty.
The teacher, Erin Bailey, is going to be fired, according to the Department of Education.
The principal, Jose Maldonado, who oversaw the trip preparations is losing his tenure and being demoted to a principal on probation.
The assistant principal, Andrew Stillman, is also being demoted.
