This is really too bad. I was up here in LG (writing this from Glens Falls) all weekend and it was a perfect day that ended in tragedy. 47 senior citizens with just one guy as the captain seems like too little supervision to me, and apparently none of the passengers was required to wear a life jacket. I've seen the Shoreline Cruise boats going up and down the lake for years, and I can't believe the boat swamped, especially on such a nice, calm day.

As you can imagine the locals are shocked. I know the owner of the Shoreline Cruise company personally, and I am saddened for him and his family and employees. This is not a schlocky tourist-trap company and I don't believe they would be negligent, even unintentionally. A sad, sad event.

OMG I grew up on Lake George

Apparently they were a couple of miles up the west side, Hearthstone State Campground is in that area when the boat did a very hard turn and then went over. The passengers seats are in a cabin with a wooden roof and large glass windows. These boats move pretty slow so it so wierd to hear of one capsizing. I think there were 29 passengers, 21 confirmed dead. How sad.

That's pretty awful.

Not to make light of a terrible event, but did you notice who the picture of the Deputy is credited to?

SRO - where did you live on the lake? My parents' place was on the east side at Plum Point below Dunham's Bay. I spent summers on the lake for many years and my Mom still lives in Lake George Village.

I truly love Lake George and that region, so it really hurts to see something awful like this happen.

Big deal about having one less crew member  Based on what I heard, it would have made no difference at all....the incident happened too quickly.

My family owned a resort/marina for 20 years in Northwest Bay 2 miles north of Bolton Landing across from Tongue Mt. When I was a youngn used to hang out at the Garrison and Mothers.

Appears to be a freak accident, very strange. It's a flat shaped boat, very stable. Sounds like the company is gonna get screwed cause they had only one crew member aboard.

I heard the captain tried to turn into the wake so the passengers being elderly would not fall down from the rolling if they hit the wake from a parallel position. Hitting the wake from a 45' angle is what caused it to go over by causing the passengers to slide to one side of the boat as it was dropping down after the first wave.
