Looks like just about every area that’s still open in the Northeast plans on closing after Sunday. Besides Kmart does anyone know of any other areas in the Northeast who plan on trying to stay open a little longer?

I think Sugarbush (North) plans to stay open one more week, and then close midweek and repon for the last weekend in April if conditions permit. Jay also plans to stay open past this weekend.

i wouldn't be surprised to see wildcat go for the end of april. judging from the view from hillmans' highway yesterday, they still have ample coverage on most of their trails, even down low. i have skied several times at wildcat when small bare spots required a five foot hike across grass to ski the entire way down. no doubt they will be pressing towards the end of april with their current coverage. no last day posted yet!

Do you lack reading comprehension?;-)

They defiantly have enough snow to last atleast through the week after christmas. Kinda mad because I probably would have went up for a day there, but then again if it is a nice day it is hard to not go up to Tux.(and suprisingly my dad agrees with this now, and it looks like we might go up for a few days after easter and stay at the lean-tos.

WOW, considering their coverage, they could go much further. that announcement was not there earlier this past weekend. i think they have gone later in the past. considering their early opening, i am surprised they are not willing to challenge for end of season bragging rights considering superstar is rumored to be lower than normal.

any ways, at least i don't think the snow at wildcat currently is going to last until the week after christmas ;)

Yeah, I know it does seem weird. Espically after past years of staying open with pretty much no snow.(your TR is a perfect example) And after making more snow(and snow in better places) then in past years(ex: last year they could have easily made it a week or 2 into may but had no snow at all around the base). Must be the new director of skiing taking charge... They should still be open on weekends though.

If they open back up for the following weekend that would be great!

As of Sunday, there was plenty of snow to ski on at Killington. However, they have since shut down the lift service at Bear Mtn, Needles Eye and at Snowden. That will limit the terrain that you can experience. I plan on joining other in hiking to those other areas and also getting some friends to pick us up at Bear Mtn. It is a shame that they closed that lift service down since there is a lot of snow on Outer Limtis. Even the Fiddle and Dreammaker are still doable.

We will keep Mount Ellen at Sugarbush open through Sunday, April 23rd if conditions allow and reopen for the final weekend as well. There is good coverage at the top (combination of snowmaking and some good late snowfall) , but it is beginning to thin in the base area. We are still skiing and riding top to bottom, but it is going to be in the 60's and sunny the next couple of days and a bit warmer than it has been at night later this week. We can download on the GMX lift if the base area doesn't hold which is one of the reasons why we open Mount Ellen early and close late. Skiing off of the Summit chair is usually really nice this time of year as the mountain faces north and the summit chair is 4,083 feet high.

I don't see any plans for Stowe or Jay to close down after Easter. Unfortunately, I only see myself getting a couple more days in - 1 at Tucks on 4/22 and then maybe 1 or 2 at K-Mart the next weekend.

Stowe may be last man standing this year. They are still reporting 65" at the stake. I guess it would depend on the lower mtn conditions as they have no downloading options.

what about Stowe, when are they staying open until?
I don't think there is any official closing date set. They tend to go until they don't have enough snow left to make it to the base. We commoners may even be able to afford it the last week or 2 they are running, as they usually have some deals.

Jay Peak

Welcome To Easter Weekend

This report will cover operating conditions for both Saturday and Sunday this week. No report will be filed on Easter Sunday.

We’ll have another great day for skiing or riding today, temps should reach the high 50’s at the base with cloudy skies and maybe a shower later this morning. Most recent forecast calls for 4-8" of SNOW across upper elevations beginning tonight and lasting through Monday night. Almost too difficult to believe but, again, we're talking Jay Peak here. Expect clouds and maybe a rain shower today and SNOW on Easter Sunday. Bust out your neon eggs and give the kids a shovel; them eggs'll be buried in the white stuff.

Conditions continue to be good. We have 40 of 76 trails open with spring surfaces all round. You'll find bare spots and thin spots with some walking required in spots, but you'll also find a ton of snow on the Jet.

Enjoy your holiday weekend and we'll talk to you on Monday

Just came down from Mount Ellen and on the way to the Adventure Games. The sun came out and the snow has softened. FIS, Black Diamond, Bravo to Exterminator are great. Elbow and Rim Run are flatter and soft spring snow - great cruising. It is going to get a bit colder tonight, so we can probably groom and repair a few weak spots on the lower mountain to keep it top to bottom through tomorrow. Next week looks like sunny days and cooler nights. Perfect to keep the top skiing great! We will probably be dosnloading at some point next week. Wicked Weekdays are still in place. $26 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
