. You would think regular exams would be a more reasonable route, especially considering her line of work.

I think the opposite. Her not going the preventative route and having regular exams to keep an eye on things in case cancer shows up would be an unreasonable way of facing the gene mutation she has. Then she would be living in fear of virtually being guaranteed to get cancer and praying that when she did, they'd catch it while it was still treatable.

Regarding her line of work; she's had reconstructive surgery. Lot of fake one's in Hollywood. No one will be able to tell the difference. ;)

85 percent chance she get the cancer that killed her mom if she didn't have the surgery. I understand I still watch her movies some of them are okay.

2 small scars, and implants to replace what was removed- overall, not a major thing career wise- probably a net positive as she ages, actually.

However, on a real-life, undergoing major surgery kind of thing, yeah, super big deal, and takes a lot of guts to make, let alone have to face, a decision like that.

I missed she had an 87% chance of cancer genetically, I take it back, no brainer. I'm sure watching her Mother struggle was an influence, cancer sucks. I lost a Sister to cancer, actually the treatment killed her, it was rough, she was only 37. I'd much rather go like Sonny Bono... WHAPP, goodbye.

I'm not saying it's lie, but can anyone come up with a better excuse for a boob job?

I'd say impending cancer is about as good of a reason anyone would need.

I've had several patients in their 20s with breast cancer that have the same gene mutation she has.......and I've only been working in medicine for 10 months at a mid-sized hospital.

IMO - the woman is a hero. If a woman who has been at the top of vanity in the public eye is making such a bold decision, it no doubt will influence numerous other young women to have the courage to do the same.

I was flipping through my wife's In Touch or Us, or People, or something, magazine this morning, and they had Angelina Jolie in one of their "She's too skinny" articles, with a picture taken April 20th. Which would be 1 weeks before the end of her 3-month double mastectomy treatment. I'm sure she'll be on the cover next week for her bravery, etc etc, but I won't be surprised if they don't apologize for their stupid article (the picture they used was either poorly photoshopped or even more poorly interpreted).

/already finished Car and Driver during morning ablutions.

+1

My wife had to have BRCA test done, and luckily it came back negative. We had even started the mastectomy talk before she had the tests done. I had never even heard of the whole BRCA thing until we had to have the discussion. Hopefully AJ's story will bring new light to the topic.
