I think Sugarbush is a much better mountain then Mt Snow, so yes I would do the two extra hrs, but all the snow conditions are about the same at the major resorts.

well i have a season pass from ASC which includes mt. snow killington attitash pico sundayriver and sugerloaf, but i havent been to MRG yet.. so I was asking about that..

mount snow had 8-10 inches of fresh packed and in alot of places 5-6 inches of untracked powder... so any mountain is nice in those conditions.. :p

i was at MRG last saturday. they've picked up around a foot since i skied there and the conditions were great considering the poor start to the winter. i have a trip write up with photos HERE if that helps you. a good portion of the thin cover should be cleared up by recent snow fall, but i'd still expect a few geological treats on the steeper and meaner stuff. i disagree with your assessment that most places are 100% this weekend. MRG has been 100% off and on for the past month and will open up stuff other resorts will not. though it's likely anything north of the bush may be 100% by this weekend, i doubt much south of the bush will be 100%.

I went up for the "tree fiddy" day on Tuesday and thought it was great but I have a pretty skewed idea for great. MRG is nothing like Mt. Snow. No snow making, grooming on like four trails, steeps, natural cliff bands, chutes, crazy good tree skiing, and much nicer people. Definately a throw back area that everyone should ski at some point to appreciate what we have and what we miss at many other mountains. Just be prepared to have you're skis re-tuned whan you get home. Double check their web site to see if they are running any deals, they often do. Have fun!

I was there Wednesday and they had just picked up another 6-8", with areas of a lot more.

It was very dry snow and very cold, so there was NO consolidation. It's supposed to warm up, which should help hold snow in place more.

If you haven't been there, it quite the experience. While Mount Snow does many things well, MRG is a whole different experience. You might like it, you might not. It's very different.

I was there on Wednesday, too. I thought conditions were good. It was cold, but not frigid, but of course we're warmer for the next several days. If you're coming up for a couple of days you could ski both Sugarbush and MRG.

If you come to the Mad River Valley for Saturday night, make sure you call and make your reservations ahead of time. There is some racing at the Bush and lodging is a little tight (finally!). There are still some rooms, but you don't want to be scrambling around at midnight looking for them.
